Game Day Thread: Bruins @ Blue Jackets

The Bruins are on the road today, playing in Columbus against the Blue Jackets.

The Bruins are now at 27-8-12, putting them 1st in the Atlantic, and 3rd in the league, 1 point behind the Capitals and the Blues (however, they do have a 4-game lead above the next team in overtime losses)

Last time, on Bruins hockey…
The Bruins were on the road, in Philly, facing off against the Flyers. The Bruins dominated play in the first period, leaping out to a 3 goal lead.

Ohhh…. yeah!!!!

Then they got complacent. They were baited into some mutual violence, and they allowed their opponent to catch up to them at 5-5 by the end of the 3rd. Defense was bad. Halak wasn’t any great shakes either.
Here are Grizz & Jaro arguing over what to do with the puck.

So they got into overtime, where the Bruins carried posession of the puck but not scoring opportunities. Naturally they went in the shootout. How did it go? Did you really have to ask?

What will be the lineup today?

The usual suspects are mostly back.

Connor Clifton is still out with an upper body injury picked up vs the Sabres.
Coach Bruce Cassidy was unsatisfied with Matt Grzelcyk’s performance, and will suit up Steven Kampfer in his stead.

Brett Ritchie will be in and David Backes will sit out again tonight.
Charlie Coyle remains as 3rd center and long-time AHL call-up Anders Bjork will be at 2nd-line right wing again.

Injured defensemen Kevan Miller (fractured kneecap) is still not close to being ready for his season debut. Forwards Karson Kuhlman and Anton Blidh have been playing in Providence.

Tuukka Rask will be in goal.

The Bruins have just seen the Blue Jackets the day after the new year, where the Bruins — wait for it — lost in overtime. The Blue Jackets roster was, and still is, a hospital ward right now.
Josh Anderson (Upper body), Cam Atkinson (Lower Body), Oliver Bjorkstrand (Rib), Brandon Dubinsky (wrist), Joonas Korpisalo (torn meniscus), Dean Kukan (torn meniscus), Ryan Murray (Upper body), Andrew Peeke (Upper body) and Alexandre Texier (lumbar fracture) are all injured.
Peeke, Bjorkstrand and Atkinson have been skating at practice and Emil Bemstrom, Scott Harrington and Markus Nutivaara have all returned to play.

While having been on a relative hot streak lately, they are still only 6th in the Metro division, sporting a record of 22-16-8 (52 points). They are 4-2-0 in their last 6 games. Netminder Elvis Merzlikins is now their primary goaltender, and got his first win on New Year’s eve.
