Morning Free Association: Blown Away

Chances are you’re waking up today in a world that doesn’t make any sense. The Boston Bruins, who stormed out of the gate in October and sputtered along since December, have now lost twice to an AHL team backed by a Latvian goalie that no one has ever heard of before named after one of the most famous rock and roll singers, Elvis Presley. Yes, the Bruins have dropped a game again to the Blue Jackets, this time in regulation. Failing to score a goal against the opposing team is a sure sign that you’re not going to win this game, giving Elvis Merzlikins his second shutout in his young NHL career.

While the team lost 3-0, the biggest loss to the team happened just 1:12 into the game when Tuukka Rask was elbowed in the head by Emil Bemstrom. After the incident, Tuukka had a difficult time getting up, requiring trainer Don DelNegro to one out to check on him.

I don’t think this happened by accident. Later on in the game, both Brandon Carlo and Joakim Nordstrom also confirmed that they didn’t think it was an accident either.

Yeah, I don’t believe him for a minute. Of course he would say this.

Anyway, it’s official: Tuukka is concussed. We’ll see which one of Maxime Legacé and Daniel Vladar gets the call up.

Morning all. I try to keep a sense of humor about sports but, man, these last few days have been depressing.

The Bruins need to get Alex Cora to show ’em how to use a camera.

Except it wouldn’t show the opposition planning the next play – it would show Bruins players
“this is you not winning a puck battle” “this is you not blocking a shot” “this is you allowing an undefended guy into the high slot”…

Not sure I like the trend of players having iPads thrust under their noses as soon as they get off the ice. Call me old fashioned.

Makes it all the more annoying when they then give up two identical goals in the same period (happened a few games ago, can’t remember which)

Huh? Oh yeah, morning. I had a terrible dream last night. I dreamt that I was watching a Bruins game….. they were skating and had sticks an’ all……. but they couldn’t play hockey…. weird!

Hi folks.

I was too tired to watch any of the game live. Glad I didn’t! Roll on the bye-week, the guys need a rest.

Darts match tonight. We’re playing the reigning league champions, and our two best players are out of the country. Our opponents are currently second in the standings with the same number of wins as the leader but a worse legs-difference, which means they’ll be looking to give us a hammering.

So that should be a fun night!
