David Pastrnak participated in the NHL’s All-Star Weekend, first on Friday night in the Skills Competition and then as captain of the Atlantic team for the 3-on-3 hockey tourney.

On Friday night, his skill was tested on the Shooting Stars event. This event required the players to shoot pucks at targets on the ice from a platform above the lower bowl seating. The targets ranged from a sign labeled 2, a net right next to it worth 4, to the net 200 feet away also worth 4 points and finally an arch with a deep net worth 10 points. For what it’s worth, Pasta hit the goal 200 feet away once and figured he could beat Mitch Marner with all 6 shots in that goal. It didn’t really work.

Because he’s awesome and lots of fun, he was able to poke some fun at himself.

“Bad preparation by me. I never practiced that. Should’ve built a 30-feet high [platform] and practiced that before All-Star. Unfortunately, I was a bad pro and didn’t do it. That way I can’t deserve a win,” Pastrnak said with a chuckle.

Pastrnak, of course, was speaking in jest. Despite notching just 10 points on seven shots, the NHL’s leading goal scorer – as always – was beaming, his patented smile a surefire indication of how happy he was to be a part of the league’s signature talent showcase.

“I’m the only one to score a goal there…it was fun,” Pastrnak joked, noting that he scored into the net at the opposite end of the rink. “I was at the end, so I had so many mixed emotions. Some guys were absolutely missing them and some guys were hitting it.”

The next night, Pasta led his team to an opening round win against the Metro division with his pastatrick. Anthony Duclair also had a breakout game with a hat trick of his own. In the second game against the Pacific, he scored an additional goal in a loss, 5-4. Despite the losing effort, Pasta was awarded the game MVP, also winning a new Honda hybrid SUV.

The ASG may not be an event that everyone wants to be at or even watch, but Pasta is the right kind of player to go because he just loves hockey so much. He loves playing the game and he loves playing for other people. He’s a real all-star.

Pasta was not the only Bruin to represent Boston; head coach Bruce Cassidy was the coach of the Atlantic. He had some thoughts on Pasta’s play.

As the coach of the Atlantic leaders, Bruce also wore something special close to his heart.

That man is living the dream.

The Bruins have most of this week off for a mini-break, returning to the ice in Winnipeg on Friday.

Oh man, Volvos last forever don’t they?

I bought a BMW because of their reputation for reliability. Not only was it not as reliable as hoped but getting it fixed cost a fortune! I eventually scrapped it after metal thieves stole the catalytic converter…

Hello folks.

Needed a break from Bs hockey but I’m ready for more now. Got to wait until Friday?!

Didn’t see anything of all star other than bits on social media. It wasn’t on nhl.tv.

Even weekend, Little Bear is given a list of possible homework assignments to choose from. This week she picked ‘research the life of a sports personality’, and said “I’ll do Pasta!” She’s a good girl! In the end she wrote about Chara after Mrs Bear pointed out he’d be easier to find facts about since he’s been around much longer.

I’ll be interested to see what the teacher makes of it!

I think the NHL youtube channel has the skills comp and all star game in full. At least it did this weekend.

I’m happy for a few more days off.
There’s plenty of hockey left to come.
