Morning Free Association: Goodbye Habs

The Bruins eliminated the Canadiens from the playoffs last night. Okay, not really. But they outright beat the Habs without ever giving up the lead, which in itself is an achievement for this team.

Yes, I’m saying this about the league-leading Boston Bruins, the team with 82 points.

The truth is that it was David Pastrnak who single-handedly beat the Habs, 3-1, with a natural hat trick.

With his fourth hat trick on the season, Pasta ties Alexander Ovechkin for the most on this season.

And with the 3 goals, Pasta has retaken the goal lead in the race for the Rocket Richard and Art Ross trophies. At 41 goals, he has more than broken his previous record and has taken the fewest games to hit that mark since Cam Neely.

Sure, he had some help. The B’s won that game with great defense and Tuukka Rask still being on fire at home. Honestly, the one goal he “let” in deflected off Nick Suzuki’s thigh and into the net. Deflections are hard to defend against. With his performance of allowing 1 goal on 29 shots, Tuukka is not only number 1 in our hearts but also among goalies with a 2.11 goals allowed average and .930 Save percentage.

Patrice Bergeron scored the final goal, an empty netter, with less that 20 sends remaining in the game. With that goal, he has climbed the scoring charts in Bruins history.

It wouldn’t be a Bruins-Canadiens game without some sort of shenanigans. Brandan Gallagher, the poor man’s Brad Marchand. He’s a pest and we hate him for it. The last game mainly saw him trying to pick on Pasta. This time he tried crap with McAvoy, Kuraly, and most of all, Chara.

So fun!

The Bruins have about a million days off before the back-to-back on the weekend, two manatee games, home and away.

Weeeeeeeeeeee!

It’s always cool to beat the Habs. Not only are the Bruins 3-1-0 vs them for the season, I think the scores were 4-5, 3-1, 8-2, 4-1, so the B’s are +10 on them. HA!

More worrying is that the Lightning have gone 9-0-1 in their last 10 and had a 10 win streak a few games before that. I hope they can find some extra skill/muscle before the trade deadline because assuming everyone’s current trajectories hold, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Washington and the Blues/Avs all look like really tough potential matchups come playoff time.

To be the best you’ve got to beat the best!

Tampa’s form has been amazing. To sit a point off the top of the league after the start they made to the season is seriously impressive.

Hey All!
Nice game last night…. Got home just in time!!! I really like this team. Fine tune it, Donny. The people available that fit the Bruins needs are too high priced!
Beautiful day in the northland yesterday. Things are moving along. New electric panel and a couple outlets installed. Approved by the wiring inspector. Need National Grid to hook me up!!!. Also started prepping the last bit of the first floor for reframing….. including another rustic beam from the sawmill on top of the mountain…. I very excite!!!

BTW, John Moore is looking like he’s getting in mid season form….. When he’s right, he’s a big plus.

Ooooooohhhhhh, rough-cut beams. Fancy. (and yes, the irony of that observation does not escape me).
Now I’m reminded to get off the stick and get that new exterior circuit for the house put in and to start picking out a roofer to rebuild my roof so I can get solar panels.

Mornin’ all.

It’s always a glorious day to thrash the Habnots! Pasta was due a few goals. Not sure how many shots he had between yesterday and his last goal but it was a lot.

And the Ordinary Punters even won a darts match – rare indeed this season! (that takes our record to 3-8)

I’m sure you’ve all seen this before but it’s worth enjoying again:
