Game Day Thread: Bruins @ Rags

Hey! That's Brad, on the TV!

The Bruins are on the road again, invading New York City, attacking the repellant Rags.

The Bruins are now at 36-11-12, putting them 1st in the Atlantic, and 1st in the league, a mere 1 point ahead of the Tampa. And also 5 points ahead of Capitals.

Last time, on Bruins hockey…
They hosted Detroit, and avoided being uncongruously swept by the worst team in the league, soundly beating the Red Wings 4-1.
Things started out on a less-than promising note, with this shorthanded goal by Darren Helm (who is apparently nicknamed “Helmer”. Hockey people are bad at nicknames)

However, the Bruins dominated posession in the 1st period, generating a bumper crop of shots on goal.

Some *actual* highlights happened in the 2nd period, including this Charlie McAvoy goal

This Marchand-Bergeron tally

This Charlie Coyle goal

And in the 3rd, we gottThis Marchand-to Pastrnak work of art.

This other Brad Marchand special…

This hit a few milestones for Bruins players
It was David Krejci’s 900th NHL game
It was Patrice Bergeron’s 3rd straight 25+ goal season
David Pastrnak’s 42nd goal
Brad Marchand’s 50th assist
Bruce Cassidy’s 200th victory
Tuukka Rask’s 20th straight home games with a point

What will be the lineup today?

Karson Kuhlman is back. Danton Heinen is back. Nordstrom is back.

Brandon Carlo is back, Jeremy Lauzon is back and has been extended 2 years.
Brett Ritchie is still in Providence, and David Backes is still in trade-dangle limbo.

Injured defensemen Kevan Miller (fractured kneecap) is still not close to being ready for his season debut, but has skated briefly on his own. Connor Clifton has been skating and has been sent to Providence, surely a sign that he is almost ready to return.

Jaro Halak will be between the pipes today.

Today the Bruins will face the New York Rangers. They are fairly healthy right now, with Mike Haley listed on the injury report with a core injury. Igor Shesterkin and Anthony DeAngelo are both day-to-day with an ankle injury and an upper-body injury respectively.
The Rangers have a mediocre record of 30-23-4 (64 points), putting them in 7th place in the metro division, but they have won 5 of their last 6 games (including a shootout win). Artemi Panarin is still their biggest scorer with 29 goals & 48 assists, placing him 5th in the league in total points.
