Morning Free Association: Two Games, Two Wins, Four Points

It was another back-to-back weekend with games on Saturday afternoon at home and Sunday afternoon away. Somehow the Bruins managed to win both games pretty handily. We can all rest assured that while the Bruins lost the season series to the Detroit Red Wings, they at least won the last game. They needed to as the Tampa Bay Lightning are still breathing down their necks in the standings. It won’t get any easier either since the Tampa Bay Lightning have traded for versatile forward Blake Coleman, formerly of the New Jersey Devils.

The bad news is that the Lightning probably got better. The good news is that New Jersey is willing to be a trade partner with teams in the Atlantic. Of course, the price will likely be steep if the Bruins are serious about acquiring someone like Kyle Palmieri. Conor Ryan of the Boston Sports Journal suggests that available assets could range from prospects in Providence, to roster players like Anders Bjork, Danton Heinen, and John Moore, to David Backes with salary retention, and/ or 1st and 2nd-round picks.

The Bruins need to make a deal for a right wing for the second line. They have 7 days in which to do it.

Getting back to this weekend, Saturday’s game against the Red Wings saw Charlie McAvoy get his second goal of the season, Patrice Bergeron score a shorty, Charlie Coyle work his magic, and David Pastrnak regain his league lead in goals with 42.

Sunday, the Bruins won despite their best efforts to be penalized to death and the refs pulling calls out of the air. The best goal of the game wasn’t scored by Walpole’s finest but rather some kid who has tripled his goal count in the past two weeks, Charlie McAvoy.

What’s great is that Wagner does everything he can to make sure that he stops just short of interfering with Alexandar Georgiev.

Yesterday’s short handed effort was at the hands of the pride of Weymouth, Charlie Coyle.

If you think about it, both of our Charlies had a two-goal weekend. Twice as nice!

Bergy sealed the deal for the 3-1 win.

Next up: the Oilers in Edmonton without Connor McDavid and Zack Kassian.

Morning all.

Strong weekend. We’d be on ten in a row if it weren’t for those pesky Red Wings!

We play Tampa in a couple of weeks. That’ll be a helluva game!

Some eyebrow raising calls yesterday…. Kuhlman for interference…. Huh? I thought they called the penalty on the wrong guy, no? B rad’s crosscheck…. He received a cross check right after he delivered his, no? Bad reputation biting him on the ass!

I loved the online convos I saw on the crosscheck.
“Typical dirty Bergeron!”
“Marchand is such a rat! Good job Buchnevich!”

I mean, WTAF?

Hey Pals!
Fine effort both days. Nice to see McAvoy get a couple goals…. his defense was super sharp, as well. Carlo is in beast mode 60 minutes a game. Lauzon continues to impress. Please, Donnie! Keep all these young defensemen. Put 12 guys named Joe in front of ’em…. they’ll win. Fortunately, the B’s supply much better than the aforementioned dozen.
Blake Coleman is a solid pick up. Do the B’s go for Palmieri??? Dunno, but I think i could let go of Moore, Heinie, and Backes. Bjork, no. I love Danton Heinen, but i fear he will Spooner us forever…… all the potential, flashes of brilliance, inconsistency.
Heading north tomorrow to work, work, work.

Yeah, what happened to Spooner? He had so much speed and looked a real bright prospect. Really shone when he was moved up to 2C during a Krejci injury spell a few years ago.

I remember he went to the Rangers (part of the Rick Nash trade?) But heard nothing about him for a while.

I think I’m with you as far as what we can give up. Bjork is still my binkie. Too interested in seeing him develop. We know what Moore is, and I think Lauzon & Clifton (& eventually Urho) could fill his shoes. Heinen is a slow growing concern, and while his game looks good, the points aren’t growing as he gains experience – a new team would probably be good for him.
