Morning Free Association: Wash your hands!

While we’re all basically stuck at home, or maybe hunkering down in a town with 20 residents in western Mass, there are probably many activities that we’re taking up right now. Some of that might be watching streaming services, exercising to keep in shape, or some household project that you’ve been putting off. Or maybe you’ve decided to learn a new language.

Swedish natives Joakim Nordström and Pär Lindholm are here to teach you useful phrases in Swedish.

It’ll be fun to find out what other Bruins will teach us. I can only imagine what Tuukka can teach us in Finnish. Or Pasta in Czech. And Zdeno Chara could tell us many things in many languages except for French. For whatever reason, he just hasn’t learned that one.

Your Richard E. Grant fact of the day:

Grant never forgets from whence he came, thinking of himself as both English and Swazi.
He likes to keep trinkets from his homeland on his person, often in the form of jewelry.
For example, he has been seen wearing a necklace of beads from Swaziland.
As a physical manifestation of his bi-national personal history, for years he used to wear two wristwatches. The one on his left wrist was a fairly normal watch, set to Greenwich time. On his right wrist would be the watch given to him by his father, Hendrick. This watch would always be set to Swazi time.

This has been your Richard E. Grant fact of the day:

I was going to mention the neat trick where if you want to know the time in India you just turn your watch upside down.
Then I realised that only works if you’re in Britain! razz

Ha! Well if I ever need to know the time in India I will be sure to ask you to turn your watch upside down!

Ugh. I just got fed up with some holes in my bathroom wall (towel rack started to pull away), and not finding spackle, I found an old tub of skim-coat (e.g. “wall mud”) and figured I’d see if that worked.
Opened up the tub and there was intimidating brown mold growing in there.

Freaked out a little, turned on the ceiling fan & closed the door, threw out the mud tub, then washed my hands.
For extra measure I gave my face a wipe down and rinsed out my mouth with some 90 proof bourbon.

Swirled it around my mouth for a bit, then it started to burn.
A lot.

And now I’m thinking – holy shit, I DRINK that stuff?!?

Morning all. Saw my dad yesterday (we stayed a safe distance). Good to chat with him a bit. Made things feel normal for a bit.

That’s nice. Leah was supposed to be going to her grandparents for a week in the easter holiday. Ah well. There is always Skype! Think we’ll have to have a big family party when this is all over.

Good Morning!!
More hobbies!! Picked up a couple old fishing rods, one fly, one spin cast. Need to get my fishing license…
Did the biathlon yesterday. The trail along the river is sometimes narrow, often muddy. The river was a little low, so we bumped along in a couple places. Great fun! Super tired today.
You would think French would be easy for Zee. Romance languages… You have one, you have ’em all, no?
More truck work today!! I’d love to go to a rink and watch some live hockey… Someday.

Oh sorry, we didn’t send you the memo. We’re not doing healthy things anymore because they are not good for you. LB was sore from a youtube video. I tripped and fell on a walk. And VA choked on broccoli. So there is a now a B2B ban on things that are good for you. lol

I read all that later in the day!!! Always the last to know. I fell over backwards and have a nasty scrape and bruise just above my gluteus maximus sinestra. Also a nice bruise on my thigh and a sore shoulder. Fuck this! I’m going to start smoking cigarettes and eating fatty foods!

Nice! What kind of fish do you get round there?

There’s no comparison between wild-caught fish and farmed fish. My brother in law catches trout in Slovakia that are unbelievable. Mmmm, I could just eat one now …

The Deerfield River gets stocked with rainbow trout brow the Fire Brook Dam. Above it there are brown trout introduced from Europe in the 1920’s. Some reach 26 inches! In the remote upper reaches there are still brook trout. Lakes and ponds have bass, perch, and northern pike. I’m sure there are more, I’ll discover them later.
My neighbor is a fly fishing guide. Pheasant Tail Tours on Facebook. He has pictures of some big ones!

Hi folks.

I’m actually quite enjoying this lockdown. Lots of relax time, lots of family time. If it wasn’t for reading about the thousands of deaths every day it would be great …

Not wishing to be cruel to Par Lindholm but he looks a lot like Shrek in that video. I’m sure it’s just the angle of his camera because the resemblance has never struck me before.

One thing I do like is not having to plan ahead and make sure when I leave for work that I have lunch, keys, etc.. It’s nice to just go into the kitchen and make lunch.
