Morning Free Association: Fenway

My favorite things in this world are dogs. They are so sweet, so loyal, so cute. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, with different levels of floor. Some are really smart, some aren’t, but all are wonderful companions. I love dogs so much and I love talking about them just as much.

A few years back, Torey Krug and his wife Melanie brought home an English bulldog they named Fenway. This only endeared him to Boston fans. This week, she’s featured in the latest Bruins Pawsitivity.

Fenway is a big sister to Saylor, the Krug’s nearly 10-month old daughter. And she’s good friends with former Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg’s French Bubbles Lollipop as well as current Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo’s English Bulldog, Winnie.

I hope Fenway brightens your day as much as she does mine.

Your Richard E. Grant Fact of the Day:

Grant played a supporting actor in the Steve Martin film, “L.A. Story“, a film about the absurdity of life among the semi-privileged in America’s most plastic city. While his role was less important than that of a large electronic billboard overlooking the freeway, Grant did receive 3rd billing.

During the making of the film, Grant and Martin became fast friends.

This was during the 1990’s so how do you think they communicated with each other?

Obviously, via FAX — didn’t everyone?

The faxes were typed out – presumably on a typewriter – before transmission, single spaced, not using spaces after punctuation, with no extra space between paragraphs, and only using capitalization as a last resort. Very “stream of consciousness” in style. If you’ve seen Grant speak, it will come as no surprise that the conversations are colorful and quickly rocket from the ascerbic to the complimentary in a single bound.

Martin was so amused by these exchanges, that he kept the correspondence, and the stack of pages is an impressive 2 inches tall.

Martin also notes that Grant – who he calls “REG” – has an irreverent, smooth, disarming style, allowing him to transition into normally taboo subject matter. As an example, he mentions that on meeting the woman who would become Martin’s wife at a party, that after 5 minutes was asking about “about the duration and flow of her menstrual cycle. The question seemed reasonable at the time, and no one was bothered or offended.”

“Loves empty water bottles”

Julio really dug those as well. We had a toy which was designed to have an empty 1/2L water bottle stuffed inside so the dog could hear it make crunching & crinkling sounds as he chewed on it.
When the bottle gets too damaged, just drink another bottle of water.
