Yesterday, Torey Krug got on thee olde Zoom app to conference call with season ticket holders for a Town Hall meeting. He discussed many topics including a possible return to play this season, keeping in shape, his impending UFA status, and the Bruins who have inspired him.
Torey Krug and his defensive partner, Brandon Carlo, are both player representatives for the NHLPA and they keep in contact with their teammates with regards to news that they hear from the league about returning to play. Krug himself says that it would be unusual to return to play in empty arenas, that lifting the Stanley Cup with no fans in attendance will “be different” but that the expectation when they put on the sweater is that they’ll win the cup no matter which way.
Krug thinks it will take time to get back into shape while getting back to playing at a high level before transitioning to the playoffs. He acknowledged that this could also lead to more injury.
As for his contract situation, Krug said that there is no discussion at the moment and that he understands why there isn’t due to salary cap uncertainty along everything else being up in the air. He maintains that he loves Boston and doesn’t want to be anywhere else.
I’d feel better if there were talks happening right now. I don’t want to think about how quickly everything will move once the league determines if and how they can resume play.
