Morning Free Association: AHL Season Done

Embed from Getty Images

Yesterday, the AHL officially cancelled the rest of teh regular season and the postseason. For some reason this didn’t seem like actual news since it seemed like they did that very thing at the end of March.

It’s a real bummer for the Providence Bruins as they led their division and had a massive win streak going into the season pause. So, no deep run, no championship, and no real resolution for the Baby B’s. It’s assumed that some of the Providence players will eventually be called up as black aces for the Boston Bruins playoff run should the NHL season resume.

One thing that was resolved was the contract situations of the Providence coaching staff: Jay Leach, Trent Whitfield and Ryan Mougenel re-signed. This is a good development since the Providence-Boston pipeline has yielded some good, consistent coaching of prospects.

With plans to complete the 2019-2020 season, the NHL schedule will undoubtedly affect the P-Bruins and other AHL teams’ schedules for the following season. It will be interesting to see how they work in concert once the Stanley Cup is awarded.

Now we’re talking about government purchasing regulations & procedures, complete with a 3-column power-point slide full of mixed acronyms, from industry, company & govt sources, 80% of which I do not know.

Doesn’t it occur to any of these presenters to state what their organization is called before talking?

Bleh. Sounds all too familiar. To be management material it seems like you don’t need to know anything, just talk a lot of unintelligible bollocks.

I’d much rather be a part of this Zoom meeting:

I’d get more out of that one.

Weird that it took them so long to make this decision.

Yesterday’s weather – very weird. Roads were fine, if a bit damp, until i got to Otis, Mass. I drive around a bend and suddenly the road has two inches of snow and ice on it! Half mile later….. nothing. Road dry. New England, if you don’t like the weather, wait a minute!

Hi Pals!!
Not surprising, the AHL’s decision. Surprised it took so long. Yup, Providence is loaded for bear (nyad, nyad). That bodes well for the future, whenever the future arrives.I guess it never does, eh?
Beautiful day in the Berkshires yesterday. I spent some time birdwatching. Spring warblers are arriving, but the trees haven’t leafed out yet. Perfect. The birding was an unexpected bonus at our house. I saw so many yesterday, including an Indigo Bunting. Never seen one before…. Beautiful.

Nice! We get quite a range of bird species round here – including parakeets!

Walking to the common with Leah the other day we saw some great tits (come on, get ya mind out the gutter!) who had clearly just left the nest for the first time. We had a family of them nest in the tree in our garden a few years ago but the parents never returned, unfortunately.

If there’s one thing to be learned from the Zoom chat it’s our minds will never be out of the gutter!

Have seen loads of chickadees round these parts. They were more scarce when I was younger, but they’ve rebounded in a big way. They make me happy every time I see them.

There used to be warblers that nested under my deck overhang, but didn’t see them last year sad

I’ve got a spruce tree that’s getting scraggly outside my kitchen window – I want to take it out & possibly replace it with a smaller one, but the cardinals love it, so I don’t want to mess with it.

Hello folks.

The German soccer league is restarting this week, behind closed doors. Two members of my department at work have been recalled from furlough accordingly, although not me.

Will be interesting to see how that goes, although the government have extended the furlough payment scheme here until October, so in the meantime I’m happy to continue relaxing!

It’s definitely been nice getting a taste of semi retirement. Now just need to find those millions of dollars! grin
