Morning Free Association: Miller’s Zoom Chat

Man, Bruins season ticket holders get to sit in on a lot of Bruins Zoom chats lately. I guess when you support the team at that level, you should get the perks, even with the NHL currently paused. I mean, going to playoff games would certainly beat these chats, but you take what you can take.

Kevan Miller was the player available to chat with Bruins STHs. Miller, who last played on April 2, 2019 and only played in 39 games during the 2018-2019 season, has been sidelined repeatedly with a patellar injury of his right knee. And, he revealed today that he has had another setback that caused him to have yet another surgery on his beleaguered right kneecap and that he is 8 weeks out from that and rehabbing again.

Miller is still in the Boston area and he’s had the chance to go hunting with Brad Marchand last week.

Miller talked about his career starting out as a kid in Southern California, playing in a prep school in Western Massachusetts and 4 years at Vermont. He knew he wanted to play in the NHL and was proud to achieve that goal within the Bruins organization. While it is not explicitly said, one has to wonder if he knows the odds of fully recovering from this injury and resuming his career, that those odds are stacked against him.

Apparently, there was more than what the Bruins released in their official video, that he lives above fellow defenseman Brandon Carlo in Charlestown and that his ideal D partner is Matt Grzelcyk.

Apparently Bruins beat writers really like talking to Kevan Miller, miss his insight, or just feel bad that this adversity has sidelined him for so long.

All Miller can do is stay positive, do the work and hope that this time his knee will heal properly.

Morning all. Had to deal with being stuck in ocean waves and then a possessed cat in my dream last night.

Ok, grammar nuances just killed me right there.

I read that and was trying to figure out how you were a possessed cat in your dream.
It did not occur to me that a possessed cat was one of the things you needed to deal with.

The thought process that triggered was something special.
“Ok, so was she the one possessing the cat? Or did she start our as a normal cat, but then her limbs just started scratching stuff without her control? If a possessed cat blasphemes, can hoomans understand it?”

Well done. I’ve managed to resist the temptation of the spirits aisle on the weekly shop the last three weeks, but it’s a struggle!
Beer is fair game.

Was the cat at sea or had you got back to shore by then?!

A dream came back to me the other day that I had in about January or February, in which they found out coronavirus could only be transmitted to adults by children. There were squads of soldiers going door to door rounding up kids to take them away to quarantine. This was before Rona was a major concern, over here at least.

Ironic there’s now a theory that kids can’t pass it on (not sure how valid that theory is).

Mornin all.

I can picture Carlo hammering the ceiling with a broom handle when Kevan is playing Garth Brooks too loud (in my vision it’s Garth Brooks, don’t know why.)

Leah’s school assignment for today is to make a stop motion animation! What a cool teacher she’s got! She’s loving it and really throwing herself into the project. Playmobil and Sylvanian Families everywhere!

That’s really cool! Would love to see the finished product if Leah’s willing to share.

Think she’s planning to put it on YouTube when it’s done… I’ll post a link if and when!

Hey Pals!!
Kevan, we hardly knew ya. Now, we know you! His knee issues remind me of what Gord Kluzak went through….
Super dynamic wave yesterday. An hour and a half of surfing put me in the easy chair for the rest of the day, exhausted. We head up north tonight. I can’t wait!!! In the river tomorrow!!
I left lots of gear outdoors last night. Also left the car windows open so….. It poured rain. Soggy is the word of the day.

Ugh, I’ve done that. It takes a while for the seats to truly dry out again and most of the flotsam in the car gets just ruined. The worst is leaving a moon roof open. Then when you think the seats have dried out, you sit on one and it instantly soaks through your clothes.

I won’t let it dampen my spirits!
