Morning Free Association: The Real Perfect Forward

Yesterday we talked about which two Bruins players were part of the ESPN column comprising the perfect forward. Curiously the real perfect forward was there all along, unnoticed and considered a bit long in the tooth. Patrice Bergeron showed yesterday why he is perfect in every way.

It’s probably for the best that he doesn’t engage in social media since he truly understands how important it is to use your words, and your platform, wisely. It’s also good to note that even though he wasn’t the first player to write something down, he took great care to choose the right words to say, to express how important it is for him to be part of the solution, whether it be teaching his children to be anti-racist, good people and donating funds to organizations in both his countries to help in efforts to fight racism.

With his words, he shows what a true leader does, not just speaking but also acting as an example of the good in people.

PK Subban, who has worked with children of color and local police in an effort to fight systemic issues, had this to say about Patrice’s statement.

Subban himself donated $50,000 to the GoFundMe page for Gianna Floyd, George Floyd’s six-year-old daughter. Subban also linked the page in his Twitter bio.

I really hope that all we’re going through in this country right now will result in lasting change.

The replies to Bergy’s /Bruins twitter post are comforting – Holtby, Subban, the Krafts, etc, etc, all weighing in in solidarity.

Yeah, it’s been pleasing to see a lack of ‘stick to sports’ replies to all these kind of posts. Normally it’s about 50-50.

Morning folks.

Off to see our friend and former neighbour to celebrate her 70th birthday. The building is a converted school and the former playground is now a communal garden, so no social distancing issues!

Fingers crossed for a positive change, not just in America but the world over. Problem is, this situation has evolved over decades, or even centuries and won’t be changed overnight. The seeds are being sown, though, by the looks of things.

Morning all.

It needs to be more than a simple Instagram post.

Thank you so much to Patrice for saying this. It’s money where your mouth is time. Donate if you have the resources or help signal boost those who need donations. And read, watch, listen, and educate yourself as much as possible.

Well said, GH. Let’s work toward lasting change. In our everyday life we can call out injustice when we see it. Change from the ground up, ’cause it ain’t coming from the top.
And Bergy….. Perfection!!!
