Morning Free Association: Phase 2?

Yesterday Charlie Baker, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, announced the commencement of Phase 2 or “Cautious” phase of reopening the state amid the coronavirus outbreak. About a week or so ago, the catchphrase went from “Stay at Home” to “Safer at Home”. With Phase 2, retail shopping with some limitations, outdoor dining with social distancing, and more outdoor activities are available to the public. So that’s great.

Phase 2 in Mass also coincides with Phase 2 of the NHL in which small groups of no more 6 players can participate in organized practices. We know the ice is down at Warrior. However, we have no idea of the Bruins have started these practices since the press are not allowed to attend. And the players aren’t talking about it either.

Most of the Bruins players are not super posty on the socials. From what I can tell, Brandon Carlo may still be back in Colorado enjoying the lake and…that’s about it. Mum’s the word.

So, hopefully some players can get back to training and skating and such. Until they talk about it publicly, we’ll never know if they’re doing it.

I’m a little cautious about the outdoor meals, but active COVID cases in town do appear to be at their lowest level since early April.
Of course, I’m also in an age group where dying from the disease is a realistic threat, so perhaps I’ll remain cautious. I ended up blowing off a dental visit last week because I was uncomfortable with the risk. (It was a cleaning – my risk tolerance is pretty low for a ^%^% routine cleaning – I’d have gone if there were something more urgent to address)

In the UK, 99% of Covid deaths have been in the over-45 age range. I’m not sure if they know why this should be the case.

Our dentists are still closed for all bar emergencies. I had an appointment cancelled early on the lockdown for a filling. Also overdue an eye test!

I really want to update my eyeglass prescription, but I don’t want to do any of the associated health check stuff like the glaucoma test or the retina examination, since I don’t see how that can be sufficiently sterile.
Of course, I haven’t checked with my optometrist to see if she is opening the office yet.

Morning all. For GH and IW, remember my rambling about my boss’s organization and calling us to find stuff on his desk? Working in the office for a bit today and got this message first thing:

Since you both are going to office today I am going to stay away. But I took some notes that I am going to ask you to look for on my desk. Let me know when you are there

lol

It’s hilarious. “Sit at my desk. On the right under about 5 sheets of paper is a notepad. Three pages in there’s a phone number.” Sure enough, he knows exactly where in the mess everything is.

I don’t know my mess as well as your boss knows his. First, I have to remember what I’m looking for!

I always remember what I’m looking for…
…until I enter the room in which I expect to find it.

Phase 2, in which Doris gets her oats… I guess we’ll find out if the Beatles were clairvoyant or not. I’m ready for some reopening. We’ve had the outdoor dining for a couple weeks now in Connecticut. Jo and I haven’t tried it yet. We’re still cautious…. I have to break out one of my favorite slogans…. Cautiously optimistic.. It usually applies to our favorite hockey team, but I want to be hopeful about everything!!
Can’t wait to see some hockey.

Ah, I Dig a Pygmy by Charles Hawtrey and the DeafAids!

Yeah, nothing wrong with a bit of cautious optimism.

We’ve gone two consecutive days with no Covid deaths in either London or Scotland. Two years groups started back at the village school today, and although Leah’s year isn’t one of them they’re starting Zoom lessons from next Monday!
