Morning Free Association: In the Bubble

The Boston Bruins, like all the other 11 teams from the Eastern Conference vying for a shot at the Stanley Cup, are in the bubble in Toronto. They’ve been settling in. They’ve been doing media availability. They’ve been exploring the spaces, accommodations, and amenities in their home for the foreseeable future. The NHL worked to create a secure zone around the hotels and other facilities that are being used for the return to play in Phase 4. One thing we’ve found out: the hotels are fenced off from other public places.

“Took a walk around the hotel and the area we have fenced off here. Plenty of space, plenty of room, seems like we have everything we need,” said Kuraly. “I don’t see any areas where we’re looking for something we don’t have…there’s plenty of space. It’s been a great set up.”

This is good because people need downtime and to be comfortable to buy in to staying in.

David Pastrnak returned to practice in Toronto.

And he still doesn’t like the Leafs.

It’s great that he is back, however another big name wasn’t back at practice: Zdeno Chara. Turns out, it’s no big deal, more precautionary rule-wise.

Still, I’m glad to see the league taking this seriously.

Patrice Bergeron is the Bruins nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy. NHL executives select the winner of this award for a player that exhibits leadership on and off the ice while making significant contributions to their community. Bergy won the trophy back in 2013. With his various community contributions — Patrice’s Pals, hospital visits, the Pucks and Paddles fundraiser that he started, and his statement and monetary contributions to the local NAACP and Centre Multiethnique de Quebec after George Floyd’s death — he stands a great chance at winning again.

Hi folks.

Great trolling from Pasta!

Got an email last night to tell me my job is safe, so that was nice! Still I won’t feel entirely secure until we see what’s gonna happen with the rona this winter…

Got a daddy-daughter day today. We decided to let Ziggy have a fly around if he fancied it. We opened up his cage, put some of his favourite things outside to tempt him out. Turns out he was happy with staying in the cage! Hopefully he will teach Leah patience!

Exhibition games start today, right? Might have to try to catch some of that.

Hi Pals!
Back in CT….(bitch, mumble, groan) where it’s hot!! Jo has suggested I clean the pool today, from the inside, with a toothbrush. I’m taking that advice!! Going to a hockey rink would also be great! Vermont has opened their rinks. Some in Connecticut are going to open, but all melted their ice mid March so it could take a couple weeks.
Good to see Pasta back on the ice. I love the “no Leafs” thing!!
