Morning Free Association: Tuukka Opts Out

We might as well rip off the Band-Aid on this fine and hopefully cooler-than-seasonal morning: Tuukka Rask opted out of playing in the playoffs on Saturday morning, choosing to go home to his family.

It was certainly a surprise, in a way.

Or was it? Tuukka may have been dropping some clues as to how he was doing in the bubble. Psychologically, it must be tough to be away from your family for an indeterminate amount of time, especially when you have a newborn at home. Oh yeah, let’s not forget there’s a pandemic that’s still forcing people to stay at home or social distance in every situation making these games in the bubble feel unreal to say the least.

Anyone who is a human being with a soul knows that Tuukka made the right decision for himself and his family. There was no sense in his staying up in Toronto and trying to force his head into the games when he had other more important things to worry about with his family. Some reported that it was a family emergency which it was not, but that doesn’t matter anyway. A player’s career is short but family is forever.

I reacted poorly to the news, not in condemning Tuukka because I feel he absolutely made the right decision, but it what it might mean for the playoffs and his future in the black and gold. Of course, I am only human, one who tries to game things out because anxiety haunts me like that. Really, my focus should return to the game and away from Tuukka, which is what I’m doing now. I plan on not talking about Tuukka Rask again until next season.

In the meantime, we have Jaroslav Halak who has been a great backup to Rask especially in sharing the load. He’ll work out as long as he stops taking little adventures that lead to opposing goals.

BTW, the Bruins won on Saturday. With goals from Charlie Coyle, Sean Kuraly, and an empty netter by Brad Marchand, the B’s put away the Canes Pancakes 3-1.

The good news from yesterday’s practice is that David Pastrnak practiced for the first time since he appranently injured himself during Game 1. Head Coach Bruce Cassidy says the probability of Pasta playing in tonight’s game is 50-50.

Finally, last week Montreal Canadiens current head coach and former Bruins HC Claude Julien was admitted to the hospital in Toronto with chest pains. By Friday, he had had surgery to implant a stent in his coronary artery and was sent back to Montreal to recover. He’s expected to make a full recovery but will not likely return to the bubble. I’m glad that he sought and got the medical treatment he needed. Just because he coaches the Habs doesn’t mean I wish him any ill will. I expect we all feel the same way.

Speaking of food, bears are starting to break into cars and houses around here looking for food.

Speaking of food, bears are starting to break into cars and houses around here looking for food. One of Jo’s big worries! We sleep with only a screen door slider between us and the outside world….. and we know a bear has been frequenting the yard!! She will slide the glass door closed enough so a bear can’t fit through… Because that will stop ’em!

Bears were getting into dumpsters and trash barrels so everyone’s been locking those down. So now the bears are getting creative!

Maybe have to open up the dumpster a and trash barrels again. Lesser of two evils!

Well, I guess we’re in the dystopic future now. Pestilence is keeping everyone apart, people are breaking into factions, and wild animals are competing with us for food.

I recommend putting up a sign: No Bears Allowed. That should work.

A good omen perhaps? Hurricane is over, Bears are back?

Well, Good Morning! Lots has happened since i last interwebbed. Tuukka did what he had to do. No problem with it. Yeah, I’d like to see him in net, but I’m not going to so…. \_0_/. Go Jaro, go!!
We were on the river at game time Saturday, missed it. In a strange way, Tuukka’s decision may spur the team into playing better. We can only hope.
Great weekend on the river! I’ll be shaking water out of my ears all week, but wow! So beautiful out there, well worth it!!

Hiya folks.

Nice segue from “Pancakes” to “batter up”!

Best wishes to Clode for a speedy recovery.

A good opportunity for Vladař, although obviously I hope he doesn’t see any action!

I’m on a train – we’re heading up.tp Worcester for a week. Haven’t been on public transport since March. Masks mandatory, good social distancing, plenty of hand sanitiser station around. They’ve done a good job.

Sonia said my mask suits me. I pointed out its not a compliment to imply I look better with three quarters of my face covered up!

Unlikely to see any live hockey for the next seven days. Hopefully the guys only need two more matches to advance!

lol

Was talking to someone the other day (while wearing masks) and was thinking that it now seems weird seeing people’s full faces!

“That mask really helps your look – You should wear a mask all the time!” lol

Am debating whether to move on to Venetian ball masks or dark-ages plague masks.

The ones with the big beaks look awesome! Have to wear a wide brim hat with it.

I was reading about George Washington’s demise the other day. His servants basically bled him to death. Gruesome!

Oh, I’d completely forgotten about that story! Heard it from a tour guide at Mount Vernon many (many) years ago.
