The NHL draft has come and gone. Even with a short period of time between selections (5 minutes for the first round, 3 minutes for the following rounds) it is like watching paint drying. So, like any sane person, I didn’t watch the draft. (Also, Boomer takes up a huge amount of my time; he’s so needy.)
Wednesday was the day for all of the Bruins selections, a day which saw them select a couple of potential Brandon Carlo clones, not one, but two Masons, and a whole lot of players from the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL.
Instead of my trying find the words to explain about these players, I will simply guide you to other sources that know better than I do.
2nd Round – 58 – Mason Lorei (D), Green Bay Gamblers (USHL); OSU commit 2021
Bruins at 58 draft grab overage defender Mason Lohrei. A little high but totally get it. Read the report. This kid has an incredibly high panic threshold. Heavy but nimble; very high hockey IQ. Future OSU Buckeye. pic.twitter.com/oauN51OLiK

3rd Round – 89 – Trevor Kuntar (F), Youngstown Phantoms (USHL); BC commit
Bruins at 89 take prototypical-Bruins forward Trevor Kuntar. An overager but who cares. Love the way this kid plays. Headed to The Heights after de-committing from Harvard. pic.twitter.com/9RxpQgisvK

5th Round – 151 – Mason Langenbrunner (D), Harvard commit
Bruins at 151 take Eden Praire defender Mason Langenbrunner. Huge fan of this kid. pic.twitter.com/wWe0SSmOqo

Mason is the son of Bruins Director of Player Development and former NHL player, Jamie Langenbrunner.

7th Round – 213th pick traded to Toronto for 2021 7th-round pick; no USHL affiliation; no college commitment
There you go, there are the picks.
Cleaning up leaves in CT today…. there are many!
It was noticeably colder this morning. The pellet stove must have eaten at least 10 lbs of fuel. I took the dog out to do his business while wearing a t-shirt and found it a bit uncomfortable. Fall is setting in for real now.
We had crazy gusty winds yesterday and a flash thunderstorm where we lost power briefly – I am amazed there aren’t loads of branches down. Fall colors haven’t really set in however.
Got surprised by a morning all-hands meeting I’d forgotten about. I hate that. I was still shaving through the first presentation.
I had the same gusty winds and brief power loss last night as well. Tons of leaves and a bunch of branches on the roads. We’re past peak so there wasn’t much to look at anyway.
I had a half hour delay in Western Mass waiting for trees to be cleared from Rte 8
Hi folks.
I wonder if the Masons still use the secret handshake now that shaking hands isn’t allowed anymore?
Just survived a trip to Ikea. Totally drained now. Just got to assemble the thing now (chest of drawers), although Sonia loves putting together Ikea furniture so with any luck I will get sent away
I picked up a chest of drawers from IKEA a couple of months back. It was slightly more annoying to assemble than I’d remembered. Good luck in your efforts to pass the buck (or in your case, the pound sterling?)
This time around, I tried putting some wood glue on all of the joints – it required me to dry-assemble a few things beforehand and then disassemble them so I knew how long it would take and what joins would still need to have some play in them to assemble the next part before the glue set. I went through a few heavy paper towels wiping off the excess glue.
Time will tell whether this was a good idea, but the previous two chests had started to come apart over time and it annoyed me.
Sounds like a good idea. There’s not been much swearing from upstairs yet …
I find it hard to get excited for NHL draft picks. These kids are too young to have truly established themselves, and I’ve really had no chance to understand what they’ve shown to date.
All things considered, any draft pick who isn’t a consensus top-20 pick is a crap-shoot anyway.
The comparisons to NHL players are a hoot. Obviously it comes from the scouts trying to describe the player’s style to GMs and the media. (This goaltender is more of a Roberto Luongo style than a Tim Thomas player…) but what we get as fans is “This guy is the next Carey Price” (spoiler – no he isn’t).
Agree with you there. Free agency is much more interesting.
Morning all. Nugget seemed very interested in the spreadsheet I was working on this morning. Looks like I might have a stat nerd for a cat.
“Is U gunna addz error bars to that chart?”
Hey All!
Looks like the Bruins did what they could with the picks they had. Now that Langenbruner kid he’s thin! Once again, lots of picks from prep schools and USHL. We’re making America great at hockey again, so that’s something…. (Segue time) … did anyone notice that both candidates for VP are better candidates than the presidential candidates?…. I did. Harris for Pres!!!
Taking with a friend last night and he said he liked it a lot more when politics were boring.
I was reminded how transparently greasy & disingenuous Mike Pence is. It reminded me of other slimy politicians from previous election cycles & brought me back to a less horrifying time, but the magnitude of the stuff about which he was being dishonest made me lose my cool.
“Oh, fuck right off!” – IW, last night
The real winner of the debate – the fly on Mike Pence’s head
That thing was hanging around on his head for about 4 minutes.
