Morning Free Association: Flying Through the Weekend

Winning is fun. The Bruins should do more of it. After sweeping the Flyers in their two-game homestand the Bruins are…still fourth in the East. What? How does that happen?

Saturday saw some lineup tweaks: Connor Clifton was in (on his offside) for a banged up Matt Grzelcyk and Trent Frederic being moved up to the third line as Charlie Coyle’s left wing. Clifton was fine playing beside Brandon Carlo but Frederic had a great game. His energy seemed to really work on the third line, one that saw players wearing 11, 12, and 13. If only it was truly sequential.

The Bruins saw 2 power play goals from their captain, Patrice Bergeron, 2 goals from alternate captain Brad Marchand, and a goal each from new guy Craig Smith and The Mayor of Weymouth. Also, Trent Frederic and Jakub Zboril got their first NHL points assisting on Coyle’s and Marchand’s 2nd goal respectively.

Next they take on the current second place holder in the East, the Pittsburgh Penguins, who’ve won 4 games so far. These two teams will play Tuesday and Thursday at the TD Garden before the B’s travel to Washington for two games against the Capitals.

Just spent 1:47, one hour, forty seven minutes listening to my brother. He hasn’t seen a game yet, but loves the Caps!

I’m quite looking forward to the back to back against Chara’s Caps, but it will be weird.

Got to see some NWHL games this weekend. The first game, the Pride got outplayed by the WhiteCaps. The Whitecaps are the only team that was competitive with them last season. Both teams are pretty fast, but the Pride’s stickhandling and passing needed improvement, and the goaltender wasn’t thinking ahead to handle the shot coming after the rebound.
They played the Beauts on Sunday – the Beauts were their whipping boy the last couple of seasons, and yesterday was no exception. A much better showing by the Pride. Tuesday’s game vs Toronto should be fun.

Also – saw the answer to “how do you get your fans to do ‘the wave’ if they are only represented by cardboard cutouts?”

I saw a huge hit in a NWHL game video highlight. Wow! Not sure who it was, but as devastating a hit as I’ve ever seen…. clean, too.

Are they allowed to hit in women’s hockey?! Pretty sure they’re not in the olympics

Good Morning!
Missed the game Saturday as internet troubles continue up north. Maybe I should miss them all. That power play, eh? Nice to see Smith break the ice. That first one is always tough to get.
Snow keeps piling up in Monroe. An inch or two of flurries every day. Friggin’ cold, too. Insulation happens next!

No insulation, eh? That sounds fun.

The snow hasn’t been piling up out this way, but we did get some deep winter cold over the past few days. It was 14F when I checked this morning. And my stove has been shutting off. I think what’s been going on is I got some bad wood pellets. The bags had holes in them, the pellets get damp, the water freezes, the pellets break apart and turn into sawdust. Sawdust still burns but it can clog the pellet chute in the stove. I think it also clogs the little holes in the burn pot that let air and sparks into the make the fuel burn hot.
I’ll have to clean out the sawdust in the fuel hopper today and make it knock that shit off.

That sounds bad. Hope you’ve got a carbon monoxide alarm.

It’s mostly annoying – the thing stops heating the house and I don’t notice until it gets cold. I do have CO detectors, but the risk isn’t high – there’s only a half-cup of pellets in the burn pot at a time, and the stove has a computer in it that turns off the feed if it gets jammed or the firebox temperature is out of range. Its why I got the thing – so I could leave it running all day and not have to worry that my dog would get burned or asphyxiated.

I fire up a propane heater a little before we work. By 4 pm Saturday it was 40 something in there.

Morning folks.

Bs on a roll! Good to see. They’ve had a much better start than I was expecting – but a pessimist is rarely disappointed!

Lovely morning here. Sunshine and a but of frost. Just back from a walk. We had a fair amount of snow yesterday morning – enough to make small snowmen. We went for a fairly long walk – got my 10,000 steps for the first time in ages! But then it rained in the afternoon and that was that.

I had higher hopes for the B’s coming into the season, but lower expectations for the defense.
Saturday’s game is the first one that felt satisfying after it was over. I’ve seen too many OT games the last couple of seasons.
