Winning is fun. The Bruins should do more of it. After sweeping the Flyers in their two-game homestand the Bruins are…still fourth in the East. What? How does that happen?
Saturday saw some lineup tweaks: Connor Clifton was in (on his offside) for a banged up Matt Grzelcyk and Trent Frederic being moved up to the third line as Charlie Coyle’s left wing. Clifton was fine playing beside Brandon Carlo but Frederic had a great game. His energy seemed to really work on the third line, one that saw players wearing 11, 12, and 13. If only it was truly sequential.
The Bruins saw 2 power play goals from their captain, Patrice Bergeron, 2 goals from alternate captain Brad Marchand, and a goal each from new guy Craig Smith and The Mayor of Weymouth. Also, Trent Frederic and Jakub Zboril got their first NHL points assisting on Coyle’s and Marchand’s 2nd goal respectively.
Next they take on the current second place holder in the East, the Pittsburgh Penguins, who’ve won 4 games so far. These two teams will play Tuesday and Thursday at the TD Garden before the B’s travel to Washington for two games against the Capitals.
