On Saturday night, the Bruins came very close to winning the game against the Washington Capitals. Boston played a close, tight defensive game limiting the Caps to just 23 shots on goal. Unfortunately, Tuukka Rask was not having the best of nights, allowing 4 goals (1 PPG) on those shots.
What was impressive about this overtime loss was that the Bruins managed to climb out of a 3 goal deficit starting in the middle of the second period with goals from Nick Ritchie (PPG), Brad Marchand, and Charlie McAvoy, with the last goal scored with under a minute left in regulation. David Pastrnak got his first point of the season on that goal as well. Patrice Bergeron quietly had a 3 point night assisting on all the goals.
Alas, the win was not to be. The Caps gained first possession of the puck in overtime and on Alexander Ovechkin’s stick, the game would go to the Capitals.
Some interesting tings happened between the two teams. For one, the Bruins kept honouring their old captain by shooting pucks at him. First it was Pasta then it was Killer.
Bad luck for Chara here — as Pastrnak’s pass deflects off his stick and hits him in the face. pic.twitter.com/M1fIJVwIl0

Poor guy feared for his face.
Trent Frederic made a new friend in Tom Wilson.

The Bruins and Capitals face off again tonight at 7pm from Washington.
I love how Charlie Macavoy has become the driving force of this team. He has arrived! You can see how confident he is in the game. This kid will probably win a Norris someday. Carlo probably won’t win a Norris, but is just as.key to this teams future. Macavoy \Carlo is as good a 1 – 2 punch on the back end as Bergy \ Krejci up front. It was the right time to push Chara into a reduced role. It doesn’t bother me that he left on his own terms to continue in a top four role.
Yep, Charlie has stepped up in Chara’s absence.
They look a solid, deep squad so far. The kids are contributing; Miller is in good form; goalies hot, in the main. They’re a lot of fun to watch.
Yep, Charlie’s stepped up, and Lauzon is making far fewer “OMFG, why did you do that?” plays than I’d seen from him earlier.
I’d like to see more healthy Grizz than Cliffy, but the D has been quite solid overall.
Lauzon was the biggest question mark for me coming into this season. I’ve been more than pleased, so far. We’ll see what tonight brings
Good Morning!!
Awaiting snow and insulation this morning!!! I have prioritised the insulation, but Mother Nature may have the last say.
So, the Bruins played well enough to win Saturday. They need to win tonight. The Caps have a psychological advantage over them right now. Playing them more frequently is a great way to slay that dragon. Besides, none of the kids share any of the recent history. If Frederic can tease a bit of the old Wilson out of Wilson, that would be great. No need to fight the big man just yet.
Morning guys,
Bs were the better team. A point was the least they deserved, but that fightback will give them confidence going into tonight.
I didn’t notice Miller hit Chara with the puck. Good reactions from the big man! (Unless he happened to be sitting there with his face in his hands…)
I like Trent Frederic’s attitude. We need a guy like him. Hopefully he’ll give Tom Wilson a whuppin’ tonight!
So, my mum’s partner has had her Covid jab (first dose) and our neighbour, who I do the shopping for, has got hers this week. Light at the end of the tunnel!
Right now I don’t mind being low priority on the vax list. Let the pros sort it out a bit, then I’ll get mine. You know, you don’t buy a computer or phone.with a brand new operating system…… you hold off until it’s proven. I feel the same way about the vaccines.
Figuring out how to get an appointment is apparently not as straightforward as one would hope.
The state website (ma.gov) has a map with the COVID vaccination sites on it – cool. Then one goes to the next website and has to deal with whatever awkward appointment mechanism that store/pharmacy/clinic has set up.
They are more regimented than I thought. The state set up numbered phases – I emergency workers & oldsters. II higher risk folks. III Everyone.
But within each phase, they set up multiple tiers. So we just entered phase II, and I think they start with people with 2+ comorbidities before they take 65 yr olds before they take people with 1 comorbidity, etc. The websites are not dealing with this particularly well.
Wow – there’s nothing like making things complicated!
My Dad (70) has been invited to book a vaccination online but that would be about 30 miles away (yes, that’s considered a long distance in these parts!). He’s been told if he waits for them to contact him he’ll be able to get one locally.
I am 64, of course.
Bruins: “Hey Z, Remember that Blues game where you got hit in the face with the puck?
Remember? Remember?”
Chara: “Yes, STOP SHOOTING THE PUCK AT MY FACE!”
So, out here in.the hill towns, 30 miles is kinda like a country mile…. A country mile is twice as far as “there and back again”, but not nearly as far as ” over yonder”.
