Morning Free Association: On the Mend

Monday’s practice saw the return of a few players and the early exit of another. Monday also saw another game postponement.

Jake DeBrusk and Matt Grzelcyk returned to practice in regular jerseys with the ability to take contact. DeBrusk, absent 5 games, and Grzelcyk, missing 4, are itching to get back in the lineup, especially after watching from home as their teammates won in dramatic fashion game after game on the road trip. DeBrusk says that he’s feeling 100% while Grzelcyk has been trying to relapse from his injury. Either or both should be in the lineup for the next trip down to the New York City and the Island.

Jake practiced alongside Charlie Coyle on his natural side with Anders Bjork on the other. Cassidy said it was this way in part to spur the guys into some even-strength scoring.

Jack Studnicka was also spotted at practice wearing a red no-contact sweater. He did not take any line rushes.

Charlie McAvoy left practice early after colliding with Trent Frederic during a drill and chipping a tooth. He was sent to the dentist and is expected back today.

The B’s game against the New Jersey Devils next Monday is going to be rescheduled. This COVID stuff is getting out of hand.

And finally, David Pastrnak was named the NHLs First Star of the Week

I know people are getting tired of the snow, but it is beautiful! Going to spend a lil time outdoors!

I’d rather not see the Devils in the building on the 18th, either. And I don’t think Buffalo wants any part of them on the 20th – or for the rest of the season.
The removal of the glass behind the benches is a desperate measure, but it will do very little. Between the NWHL “nDubble” disaster and the Devils->Sabres, I think we’ve outright proven that on-ice transmission of COVID is a thing that happens.

I know, who could imagine that getting pinned in a corner by a hyperventilating sweaty athlete could spread a highly contagious airborne respiratory disease.

I have been wondering how hockey can be played safely with covid. Even with a mask, that hyperventilating sweaty athlete would be spreading covid like crazy

Morning folks.

Ugh. Another rescheduled game?

Glad the guys have had some time to rest. I was reading the other day that NBA teams have been doing better when returning from a Covid-enforced break. I’d have thought it would benefit hockey players even more? Though haven’t seen any evidence.
