Morning Free Association: Gameday?

After what seems like a million years, the Boston Bruins are playing a game at home against the New Jersey Devils. Yes, they were slated to play on Monday but you should just blame COVID for that. Or the Devils all getting the COVID. Or the fact that no one seems to know how to prevent themselves from getting it and spreading it to others. You get it.

It’s not the like the NHL had the right idea before they initiated the Return to Play. It just seems like everyone forgot about all that since the pandemic has been going on for most of our adult lives. Wait, it’s only been since last March? It’s like a year of Marches.

Anyway, tonight Matt Grzelcyk and Jakub Zboril have been ruled out. John Moore will likely play beside Brandon Carlo on the second pairing and Connor Clifton will bring his own brand of hockey to the third pair with Kevan Miller.

Otherwise, we’re looking like everyone else is a go. Pasta next to Krejci, DeBrusk next to Bergeron, Craig Smith next to Coyle.

By the way, if you missed this last week, here’s the stand off between Marchy and Zibanejad.

Wow, McDavid has 501 points from 369 games! But how many times in the playoffs? What a waste.

All those top 5 draft picks, but no chemistry or leadership. It is a shame. McDavid and Draisaitl might be the greatest one two punch in NHL history!

My current read is “En el tiempo de las Mariposas” or “In the time of the Butterflies”, if you prefer Anglaise. Trujillo is one of my favorite subjects. Trump like, but in a ” shithole country ” to quote Trump himself. Good rea diff.

Sitting waiting for the snow to fly. Expecting a storm of long duration, but only about 5″ of snow. Snowblower gassed and ready.

Batten down the hatches!

We seem to have progressed to the usual lengthy not quite winter/not quite spring period

The cycle of snow/rain/bitter-cold is wearing on me. I refuse to dream about the thaw and get my hopes up when there is probably another month of this to slog through.

Morning folks.

Ugh, damn the Covid. It’s now looking very unlikely we’ll be able to go to Slovakia this summer. The in-laws have a cottage in the countryside and it’s one of my favourite places to be in summer. We didn’t go last year for obvious reasons, and they came to us the year before so assuming we are able to go next year that’ll be four years since our previous trip. Ughhhhhh!

Anyway, the guys looked in need of a break in that Isles game, hopefully they’re sharper tonight. Devils looked good in their last game though.

Sorry to hear about the possibility of another summer without your Slovakia trip. We’re bummed that we haven’t gone for a decent road trip for a while. I’d been thinking for a few years about following the Bruins on their west coast trip & seeing games in LA, ANA, SJ. I don’t think GH & I have had an extended trip since going to Vegas in 2017. I’m hopeful that we will be able to travel a little once vaccinations pick up some more. At the very least, we should be able to manage a weekend in Portland or Newport.

That would be a fantastic trip!

One of the (few) benefits of the current situation is that with no travel costs and pubs & restaurants closed I’m spending hardly any money! Have managed to stash away enough for us to have a lavish holiday when this is all over. Leah is fixated on Paris atm for some reason so maybe we’ll do that.

Good Morning!
This trivial contest before the game was….. AWESOME! I remember a prep school player who liked to be last off the ice and would always shoot a puck at the opponent’s net before he left. I was working a game at his school. NCAA protocol applied – visitors leave the ice first. This kid let’s the puck go from his end. Visiting goalie glances over his shoulder as he’s exiting the ice, says “Hell no!” and charges toward his net, diving across the ice to stop the puck. I still laugh. Games within the game, eh?
