Morning Free Association: Lather, Rinse, Repeat

As much fun as the Bruins games against the Flyers have been, their games against the Islanders have been torture. It really doesn’t matter when the B’s play them (first on the road, in the middle of the roadtrip, either side of the back-to-back) it seems that when they play them at the Nassau Veterans Coliseum, the Bruins are going to lose. This time they lost in the third period by giving up 5 unanswered goals. And I really don’t even feel like talking about it.

It all started out great, with Nick “I’m Not Brett” Ritchie doing what he does best: scoring net front.

The Islanders came back in the period with goals from Adam Pelech and Mathew Barzal.

Going into intermission, the Bruins were down 2-1.

Then more than midway through the second, Craig Smith scored his fourth on the year to tie it up.

The Bruins should come back and have a strong third period, right? Wrong!

Beauvillier goal gives the Isles the lead.

Eberle adds to it 5 minutes later.

Bruins get a power play when the puck goes out of play in the Islanders zone. But it goes wrong when noted Bruins killer Jean-Gabriel Pageau scores a short-handed goal. He’s scored in each of the Bruins losses on the Island this season.

And that wasn’t all. Since the Bruins seemed pretty hopeless, they gave one up in the crease by Anders Lee. And another by Wahlstrom.

Yep, they lost 7-2. Had the Bs scored once more, they would have the opposite score of Sunday’s blowout of the Flyers.

Next up: The Rags at MSG tonight!

Good? Morning!
The games against the Icelanders have been brutal to watch. Jo was upset that the Bs will be playing during our drive north. I told her “it’s the Islanders again.” Oh was all she said.
There’ll be days like this. A little slump while the kids learn a few tough lessons. I still think this an exciting team to watch and easy to root for.

There was 45 minutes of not annoying hockey to watch, but ick.
I would think that the Bs can learn to beat these guys. Need to season the youngsters, though.

Me: I need to get some sleep. The web site can wait.

Are the keys taking it in turns to quit?

It seems that way. I wonder if some foreign object like a crumb of a bit of sand found its way inside the keyboard.

This was frustrating. It’s not like the Bruins were giving up hundreds of shooting opportunities – they just got stupid. T-Freddy and Urho got their pockets picked in front of the crease. The Isles would get Halak to commit to the butterfly on breakaways then roof it.

Some days you get away with your mistakes, some days every one of them gets punished. I guess it’s going to happen with so many kids in the team.

Morning folks.

I accidentally saw the final score this morning so didn’t bother with the full replay! From the highlights, it looked like it was pretty even game before the Bs decided to recreate Keystone Cops in the third.

Maybe they think they’ll do better on the second leg of a back-to-back if they only play two periods the night before?

Ritchie doing what e does best: scoring net front

Seems like the combined distance from net of all Ritchie’s goals this year are going to add up to about 30 feet. Nothing wrong with that! Gotta be strong in the dirty areas!
