Morning Free Association: The Return of Chara

Tonight’s game against the Washington Capitals marks the return of former captain Zdeno Chara to the TD Garden. It’s been almost 15 years since he last arrived as an opponent from Ottawa at that time. Unfortunately for him, there will not be fans in attendance to see his return and thank him. I wonder if they’ll even play a tribute video. One thing’s for sure: his family seemed happy to see him for the first time in months.

And for those who wondered how he could see his family, they took all the necessary precautions and protocols to make it happen.

Of course, Bruins media were all over the story of Big Zee coming back to face his old team. When asked about Chara’s gym routine and what makes him so special, Patrice Bergeron had a classic response.

Bruce Cassidy and former pairing partner Brandon Carlo also talked about him during their media time.

Chara also spoke wit the media, talking up Patrice Bergeron, the City of Boston, and thanking the people who make it all possible at the rinks.

As for the Bruins, David Krejci should be back in the lineup tonight after practicing in a normal white sweater. Matt Grzelcyk is nearing a return but is not ready yet. However defenseman Jarred Tinordi, who was picked up on waivers from Nashville last week should be on the roster soon if not tonight.

Tonight’s game will be the third matchup between the two teams this season and will air on NBCSNPDQ+ at 7pm.

Good Morning!!!
Looking forward to the game tonight! Win or lose, the Caps are a great test for the boys. While still a little banged up, the Bruins should be competitive. I want to see how Tinordi fits in. Nothing wrong with more muscle. Drafted in the first round and son of an NHLer, bigger things were expected of Tinordi. 7 or 8 years into his career, he’s looking like a bubble guy….. too good for AHL, third pairing in the show. He has 88 games in the show. 1 goal, 10 assists, -9, and 119 penalty minutes to show for it. Let’s see Wilson tackle this guy.
All set to go to work in Happy Valley…. Let the rich New Yorkers wait.

Ah, good info on Tinordi. Sounds like he could be useful to rotate into the third pair for matches where extra muscle could be useful. Especially with a young roster. Although Frederic is young AND tough. Wonder if he’ll have words with Wilson again tonight.

I think we will see round two of Freddy vs Wilson in one of these two games. That kid wants to let certain types that he has arrived.

Hmmm… Hadn’t thought about Tinordi in terms of beef. Did a quick look at his history when the waiver pick-up happened, and was not impressed. I remembered him positively from when he was with the Habs, but damn he’s been disappointing for a ~22nd overall pick. This kid clearly ain’t the answer from a defensive standpoint – obviously a depth guy. On the plus side, that goal was recent.

Will he supplant one of Moore, Kampfer, Cliffy? I am doubtful, but could imagine any of him, Moore, Kampfer being dangled for Kraken bait or just falling off the end of the roster into free agency. He and Kampfer (and Miller) are in contract years.

Freddy seems to want to go with someone every game. I appreciate his energy, but you gotta pick your battles or you become known as just a thug. That said, I won’t mind seeing him take a shot at fighting Wilson. Any time someone punches Wilson, it makes me smile.

Hi folks.

Never heard of Jarred Tinordi. That said I’ve barely seen anything of teams not in our division this season.

Jared’s dad was Mark Tinordi, 12 year pro, mostly with the North Stars and the Caps. Montreal fans were uber excited when Jared was drafted. Maybe he’s a late bloomer, but a stop gap, I think, until we know more about Miller. I’m really rooting for Miller. That guy has worked so hard!!
