Morning Free Association: Staying Tight

Monday was an optional skate day for the Boston Bruins who are looking forward to the schedule becoming busier than the first 6 weeks of the season. The team is getting ready for a one-game road trip to Long Island to play the Islanders in what would be better called “The Mausoleum” due to the Bruins tend to be dead and buried by the end of their games against the Isles. Oh yeah, that game is tonight.

The good thing is that this is the last time the B’s will have to play in that building this season. Actually, it’s the last travel to New York City/Long Island in any capacity for the regular season. Woo-hoo! However, it’s not their last play against a New York team this week; the Rangers will be in town for games on Thursday and Saturday.

Tuukka Rask will likely not make the trip due to some sort of issue with his back. This injury was apparent in Sunday’s loss to the Devils when he looked laboured getting off the ice for the sixth attacker. On the injury report, Tuukka is listed as “day-to-day”. The start was already a scheduled one for Jaro Halak. My guess is that Callum Booth will be elevated from the taxi squad to back up Halak.

Tonight’s game is at 7pm.

When I saw Tuukka exit the net, the way he was skating reminded me of the way I walk after a couple of days of shoveling snow or stacking heavy things (a ton of pellet fuel or a cord of firewood). You make the moves that usually cause your body to stand up, but you aren’t standing when you finish.

After consuming a bunch of ibuprofin, doing some stretching & bed rest, it usually goes away for me. Here’s hoping that his situation isn’t worse than that.

Fortunately, Halak was pretty solid last time he played.

Good Morning!
The Icelanders, ugh. There’s a NYC radio sports jock named Steve Somers (WFAN). He has been calling the Colosseum “the Mausoleum” for dog years. It originally referred to the lack of fans there once the Isle’s Cup runs were a thing of the past….. hmmm, I believe Mike Milbury was almost done destroying the team for the next decade, or so. Somers also dubbed them “the Icelanders”. He calls Philly ” the Cheese steaks “, and has been a pleasure to listen to over the last 30 or so years. He made a cameo appearance in ” The Fan”, as a sports announcer.
Heading for 50 something degrees today… Woo hoo! I won’t mind working outside today!!

Lovely! It’s a nice sunny day here too. 12C according to my thermometer, so yeah that must be about 50.

Am looking forward to the warmth. There are parts of my property I haven’t seen in weeks due to snow cover (which is now this crunchy icy styrofoam stuff.)

I have a compost pile which I am aching to turn over, a bit of ground I am eager to flatten – so as to install a new tool shed upon*, and am thinking about having some sod laid down over the collection of moss & tree roots which I so affectionately nickname ‘the lawn’.

*grammar brain break down. Sense not make.

I did manage to get the pipes thawed yesterday… no damage. I knew where the problem was, that made it easier.
