Morning Free Association: One Step Forward, Four Steps Back

Remember how well the Bruins played on Thursday night? How they dominated the game?. How they scored four and shut out the Rangers? Well, turns out that was a different team than the one that showed up on Saturday afternoon.

Granted the Bruins were missing some players from Thursday night’s victory. Jake DeBrusk was held out for COVID protocol, which likely means that a quick test came back with a positive result. Speedy Zach Senyshyn was sidelined with an upper body injury that has him listed as week-to-week. The lines that Bruce Cassidy started with looked like they were drawn at random from a hat, well, except for the top line of course.

I don’t want to get too much into it; the Bruins lost by the opposite identical score they won by on Thursday night: 4-0. They clearly just didn’t show up on Saturday.

They better do so tonight. They have a back-to-back in Pittsburgh starting tonight.

Since they’ll be on the road for the next 5 days, the B’s called up some reinforcement to the taxi squad. Joining goalie Jeremy Swayman and Anton Blidh will be forwards Karson Kuhlman, Oskar Steen, and defenseman Jack Ahcan.

If you need a primer on how to pronounce his name, this is for you.

Starter Tuukka Rask is still out with is injury and Jaro Halak as Dan Vladar as his backup tonight and he presumably will play tomorrow night unless they go with Swayman.

That game was an embarrassment. An insult to fans, though with a schedule of dozens of games, usually 3x/week, it’s really difficult to blame a team for an ‘off’ game. I’m glad that there weren’t ticketholders in the seats for it though.
I wanted to think that Thursday’s game was an indication that the team was getting their shit together, after being in a slump since returning from Tahoe. (they’d had a couple of poor performances leading in to Tahoe as well). Clearly I was mistaken.
We’ve seen what this team can be this season. And it’s really satisfying when they play well. Lets hope we get to see more of it.

Morning all. Sorry I’ve been MIA. Was giving the brain a break for a while.

In hockey stuff, Nugget did a pretty good one-timer when we were playing with her little ball the other day!

I saw David Byrne’s American Utopia is starting back up on Broadway and thought “Oh cool, I bet that would be a lot of fun to see live.” Then though, “Wait a minute, that might actually be a thing I could possibly do!” So that might be my post-pandemic treat. Was definitely a weird brain shift to actually think something could be possible. It’s a nice little glimmer of hope!

Cool. Good luck getting vaccinations & tix for that!

GH just got her second shot on Friday. She spent the weekend being run down and nursing a fever, but says “It’s better than getting the virus!”. She seems fine this morning. The national vaccination stats are suddenly insanely good – amazing what happens when you’ve got competent people running the White House who actually want to control the pandemic, rather than use it as some weird macho political wedge issue.

I heard that’s pretty common with the second shot. I’ll definitely take a few days of feeling cruddy if it means we can do stuff again!

60 and over is the next age group on deck here. Which is good timing for my boss because he turns 60 today! lol

Yeah my big debate is the cost of the tickets. They are….not cheap.

Ah, that’s all great news. Sonia has had her first jab. She felt terrible that evening but was absolutely fine the next morning.

Heya, welcome back! Nothing wrong with taking a break, hope you’re feeling better now.

Post lockdown treats! Its nice to be able to think about such things, eh? We’ve booked tickets to see Matilda in the West End, and have booked a cottage for a week in August in the Lake District (area of natural beauty near Liverpool). In my mind, neither of things is actually going to happen but there’s a chance, and that’s a reason to be positive!

Hi Sis!
Glad you’re back. Always good to give the brain a break. I feel like i’m on autopilot a lot lately. Boating on Friday helped, but a break from pandemic dynamics would be nice.

Good Morning!
Had no idea there was a game saturday…. i’m sticking with that! A team with this many kids will have it’s ups and downs. I think they’ll get where they need to be….
Wow! New England at it’s finest. 65° on Friday….. 4° in Monroe, 12° in Litchfield this morn, back to 50 by Thursday… gotta love it.

Had no idea there was a game saturday…

You and 19 other people I could name.

Was not prepared for the cold today. After a couple of days in mid-spring temps, I’d thought that the winter cold may have broken a week early. I get up and it’s 65° in the living room, so I go down & stoke the stove (I pressed the little button on the thermostat to boost the target temperature). Glad I’d gotten an extra half-ton of fuel or I would have run out on Saturday. It was 10°F out and quite windy. Boomer was happy to come back inside promptly.

Its shower season here (not the one month of the year we take a shower – that’s July wink ).

Morning folks

God, that was a terrible game. One of the worst I’ve seen.

You’ve changed your clocks already, right? Spring is in the air!

Stripes! I changed all the clocks in Monroe, the clock in the car….. oh that clock on the stove in Litchfield that i actually live by… not so much. Good thing Jo is the boss. She was a lil late

Yep. And I felt like crap that morning. Boomer decided that he needed to go out an hour and a half early, and I didn’t notice because I checked the time on my cell phone and it had automatically moved forward, so I assumed I’d overslept a little, and now I’m stumbling around feeling poorly and my internal clock is all messed up on top of it.

When I came back in I figured out what had happened.
I got all the clocks updated (even in the cars) except for GH’s alarm clock, which kinda confuses me.

Changing the clock on the coffee maker was the priority for me. Nothing worse then the coffee maker not brewing when I wake up!
