Morning Free Association: Phew

It wasn’t a trap game. Well, at least the Bruins play didn’t make it a trap game. There were parts of the second period that made it seem like it could turn that way if the B’s didn’t hop back on their horse and gallop on. Of course, just looking at the score, you wouldn’t get that impression.

The morning in Buffalo was a bit of a mess with members of each organization testing positive for Covid, prompting the cancellation of morning skate for the Boston Bruins. Sean Kuraly was held out and placed into Covid protocol. Subbing for Kuraly was Greg McKegg, aka Greggory McKeggory , appearing in just his second game with the Boston club. And it was a good thing he did because he scored the first goal of the game within the first 3 minutes.

The Sabres spent most of the last two periods amassing penalties, one of which actually benefited them. Seconds into the second, Cody Eakin goes to the box for hooking Brad Marchand. On the Bruins power play, Kyle Okposo makes an ugly shot that evades Matt Grzelcyk’s stick and whizzes by Jaro Halak. Awful gimmee goal. A shorty for Okposo and his first of the season.

Some time later, in what I feel was a tie for the worst play in the middle frame, the B’s had an opportunity with Carter Hutton playing out way in front of the net and an empty net being fielded by random Sabres players. Despite all this, the B’s couldn’t make anything happen.

Ten they turned it around. On yet another power play (they had 5), Jake DeBrusk is in the right spot to bat in the puck from Pasta to make it 2-1. He collects the puck like a good boy because it marks the 700th point for David Krejci, who had the secondary assist.

Craig Smith closed out the scoring of the period with a long awaited goal of his own.

Krejci had another assist for career point 701. He wouldn’t be done. In the last period, the Bruins managed to get a power play that turned into a 5-on-3 since the Sabres are incredibly comported. Pasta made sure they regretted that. The puck had so much velocity that it went in and burst back out of the net. Blink and you’d think that it just missed.

Krejci now has 702 points.

The Bruins pull off the win and will battle Buffalo again on Saturday.

Jack Ahcan (uh-shawn) made his Bruins debut tonight due to Jarred Tinordi’s UBI. Wearing Adam McQuaid’s former number of 54, which looked really weird on a 5’8″ frame. Ahcan spent some time playing on both the power play and penalty kill and had 3 shots on goal.

Good Morning!
The Bruins took their time getting it together, but made it happen. Lots of young’uns in the line up, too. Very happy with Ahcan’s debut. Not sure how he’d look against the likes of the Caps, but against a team that should be relegated to the AHL, he looked good.

I played too hard yesterday. I’m not hurting, but I’m exhausted. Need to get in the boat more often!

I liked Ahcan’s offensive threat. Defensively, I have concerns.
It would be instructive to see him paired with a Carlo or Tinordi against an NHL team.

Morning all. I swear any time I check the Bruins score they’ve either won 4-1 or lost 4-1.

Thought it was warmer outside than it was and could get by without the winter hat on my morning walk. Only problem was I forgot about this pesky thing called wind. My ears are finally thawing out.

Full Pasta flow, eh?

Good to see Jack Edwards silence the people who have been saying he wears a wig for years!

Boomer demanded to go outside as I was heading to the shower this morning.
I tossed on a coat over my PJs. It wasn’t too bad, but fairly embarrassing nonetheless.

We played a team known for their douchebaggery. Refs called a slashing call on them seven seconds into the game and we scored on the PP. We knew we had the game then.

Final score
9-1

Morning all.

That was good enough in the end.

Ahcan is going to be fun to watch. A few areas for improvement but at this stage if you’re not making mistakes you;re not going to learn anything.

What’s up with Studnicka? Healthy scratch? I thought he was doing well – a lot better than his numbers would suggest, anyway.

Studnicka is going to be a stud! Maybe the brass thought he should watch a couple games, dunno. I thought he was playing well, too.

Maybe they felt that McKegg needed some time in the sun, since he’d been called up and traveled with the team? The Sabres are an opponent who are likely to let “young”* players get away with making mistakes. (*McKegg is like 28) I thought we’d see more of McKegg this season – he’s a fairly capable bottom-6 player. I suppose that Kuraly is better, and Studnicka has more upside potential as a long term option.

I don’t know if McKegg is worse than Kuraly.
