Morning Free Association: The Covid Protocol

As you may all know by now, the Boston Bruins are the latest team to be sidelined by the dreaded Covid protocol. A couple weeks removed from Charlie Coyle being held out of a game for a false positive via rapid test and just about a week from the same happening to Jake DeBrusk, the Bruins now have several players on the Covid list.

On Thursday morning, Sean Kuraly was the first to placed on the list along with a staff member of the Buffalo Sabres. Morning skate was canceled but the game was on for that evening, a game the Bruins won 4-1. But, things were different by the next morning with 4 additional players testing positive: Jake DeBrusk, David Krejci, David Pastrnak, and Craig Smith. Saturdays game against the Sabres was postponed to a later date. The B’s game against the Islanders at the TD Garden also was cancelled for that evening. It would have been the first game with limited fan attendance in over a year.

The players on the Covid list traveled back to Boston separately from their teammates. All Bruins players are expected to self-quarantine through Tuesday. We should know on Wednesday if Thursday nights game against the Islanders will be on.

Nugget cracked me up this morning. She did a dramatic running leap onto the ottoman. Except the blanket on top of the ottoman is made of sleeping bag material. She managed to catch herself before she slid all the way off!

We’re starting 55+ on the 5th (I’m not that old yet). So I need to wait another couple of weeks. At least I know that the odds of GH bringing COVID to our home have dropped precipitously!

So were the Bruins unknowingly flirting with covid since the Rangers games or was KeyBank arena already compromised when they got to Buffalo?

This should be fun – the Bruins come back on-line the day before the re-scheduled NWHL semifinals take place at the Bruins practice facility. I am curious as to how the teams are kept separate – are the NWHL players kept out of the workout facilities and the NHL players kept out of the locker rooms & showers? Are there currently sufficient workout facilities online at the TD Garden for the Bruins to avoid Warrior Arena altogether? They must have had a plan in place – the NWHL wanted a mini bubble environment after the debacle of the round-robin at Lake Placid.

Ah, I heard the NWHL had been rescheduled. If there is a clash it’s hard to believe the NHL players needs won’t be prioritised

Good morning!
I forgot it is Monday. Still in Monroe, sheet rocking!
I guess covid was bound to catch up with the Bruins. It figures it would happen in Buffalo…. Dirty bastards!

Oooo, are we starting a new series: John Mellencamp Facts That Are Totally True And Not Made Up At All?

Fun fact*:
John Mellencamp was born is Swaziland, and originally named Thandwa Nkambule. His lyrics and imagery all concerned life in rural Swaziland, but bore such similarly to middle America, that his record label marketed them as country folk-rock and used the more anglicized pseudonym John Mellencampfatznjammer (pronounced “KOO-ger”). He wrote and published all of his music overseas, only coming to North America for the first time in 2007.

*Fun, but not necessarily “true”

Morning folks,

well, that’s a crappy development isn;t it?!

Still, I heard this morning that a large-scale trial of the Oxford vaccine in the US suggested it was 100% effective at preventing hospitalisation from Covid. Maybe we’ll never be rid of it, but if we can turn it into a non-life-threatening disease that’s probably good enough – and achievable, seemingly.

The weather was very kind for Leah’s charity bake sale yesterday, which was a huge success! Ever the pessimist I was worried no-one would show up and she would get all upset, but in the end they sold nearly everything and raised £77 for a poverty charity that the school has been running a campaign for.
