Game Day Thread: Bruins @ Penguins

Bruins vs Penguins

The Bruins are on the road, visiting a new city – Pittsburgh, to play the Penguins for the first of two games this week. It will be broadcast on NBC and TVA Sports (Montreal)

Last time in Bruins Hockey…

The Bruins were playing the Sabres, at the Key Bank Center, but missing their keystone player, Patrice Bergeron, resulting in their #1 and #3 forward lines being juggled strangely.
After scoring first, the Bruins fell into a deep hole with some lackluster play late in the first period, and most of the 2nd. By the midpoint of the 3rd period, they were down 1-5 to the league’s last-place squad. Tuukka Rask was pulled from net after the 4th goal against to give long forgotten Jaroslav Halak some game time.
They remembered at this point how to score, with goals coming from Nick Ritchie, Kevan Miller and Taylor Hall, tightening the game, but they could not complete the comeback, going 6 on 5, and allowing buffalo empty net goal in the last minute of play. They would lose 4-6, ending their 6 game win streak.

The Bruins are now at 27-13-6 which still has them at 4th in an increasingly tight MassMutual East division, 6 points behind the Caps, 5 behind the Penguins, 3 back from the Isles, and 6 ahead of the Rangers.
They are also 4th in the division via points percentage with a total of .652, marginally behind the Isles.
Boston has 10 games remaining in the season, including tonight’s match. The other division contenders have only 8.

What will be the lines today?

Well we’ve got some new players, so coach Bruce Cassidy has some new lines.

The Injury Report: Ondrej Kaše is skating, Brandon Carlo is out with an upper-body injury. Team captain, Patrice Bergeron is day-to-day with a lower body injury. Jarred Tinordi is supposedly ok after becoming a blood fountain vs the Caps, but has not been on the game roster.
Kevan Miller is back from his recent foot infection.
I expect Bergy to be in the lineup. He was at pregame skate.

Jeremy Swayman will start in goal today, with Jaro Halak as his backup. Tuukka Rask gets the day off.

They are 2-3-1 vs. the Bruins this season.
Players out of the lineup due to injury are Evgeni Malkin,Mark Friedman, on IR with an upper body injury, and Brandon Tanev out with an upper body injury three weeks back. Casey DeSmith is expected in net.
