The Bruins are on the road, returning to Pittsburgh, to play the Penguins for the last scheduled meeting of the regular season between these two teams. It will be broadcast on NESN+, AT&T SportsNet-Pittsburgh and TVA Sports (Montreal)
Last time in Bruins Hockey…
The Bruins were playing the Pens, at the PPG Paints Arena, showing off their new diamond in the rough Jeremy Swayman yet again. In a game that was even on paper, but slightly tilted towards the home team, both goaltenders were really solid, keeping the game scoreless for the first 44 minutes. However, Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel would combine for a quick one-timer, putting the Penguins up 1-0. The Bruins started a push to tie it up, but the lone penalty assessed in the game went against team captain, Patrice Bergeron, putting the Bruins back on their heels. Pittsburgh would win 1-0.
The Bruins are now at 27-14-6 which still has them at 4th in the MassMutual East division, 7 points behind the Penguins, 6 points behind the Caps, 3 back from the Isles, and 4 ahead of the Rangers.
They are also 4th in the division via points percentage with a total of .638.
Boston has 9 games remaining in the season, including tonight’s match. The other division contenders have only 7 or 8.
What will be the lines today?
Well they’re trying some new things on the bottom six forwards to that’s a touch unexpected.
The Injury Report: Ondrej Kaše is skating, Brandon Carlo is out with an upper-body injury.
Cliffy Hockey is getting a game in at Steve Kampfer’s expense. Kevan Miller was out yesterday on a maintenance day, but should be in the lineup today.
Trent Frederic returns to the ice tonight, in an attempt to kickstart the Charlie Coyle line. Coyle had been practicing at wing with Sean Kuraly at center, but I expect he will swing back to the middle. DeBrusk gets to eat nachos from the upper deck. “We need a higher compete level” said coach Bruce Cassidy.
Tuukka Rask will start in goal tonight, with Jaro Halak as his backup. Jeremy Swayman gets the night off.

Today’s opponents are the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins are ahead of the Bruins in the standings as ranked both by victory points, by points percentage, and are now 4 games deep into a win streak, having padded their stats by winning 4 out of 5 vs the Devils & Sabres. They are 3-3-1 vs. the Bruins this season, and won more than their fair share of puck battles against the Bs on Sunday.
Players out of the lineup due to injury are Evgeni Malkin, Mark Friedman, on IR with an upper body injury, and Brandon Tanev out with an upper body injury three weeks back. Jarry is expected in net.
