I could go into a full recap here but it’s Friday and who has time for that. We all have thoughts of the weekend and don’t want to get mired in the muck of a Buffalo Sabres game. Sure, the Bruins won, 5-2, but we all know that that is nowhere near the real story. So, let’s just cover a couple things, a surface skimming if you will rather than a deep dive.
The Bruins were in danger of losing this game at multiple points
Sure, Pasta scored first and early but then the B’s played a sloppy yet generous game for the Buffalo Sabres that allowed them to remain in the game, tie it not once but twice. While no one scored for either team in the second period, the third saw the Bruins gain a tenuous one-goal lead until they decided to put the game away at long last.
Charlie Coyle finally scored a goal
After a goal drought of 28 games, Charlie Coyle lit the lamp at long last in the third period, giving the Bruins the aforementioned lead.

David Krejci has returned to his Matrix form
No one had a better night than David Krejci. Heck, no one’s had a better month than him. In the past 10 games, Krejci has 6 goals and 5 assists. What happened 10 games ago that started this streak? Taylor Hall. It turns out that Taylor Hall was an early birthday present for the now 35-year-old and he is feeling it. Krejci’s last second (literally) PPG in the first gave the team the lead again.

Then, in the third he returned to his true form bending time, space, and opponents’ ankles to get the puck to eventual goal scorer Taylor Hall.
Just an absurd feed from David Krejci to Taylor Hall.

This is the prettiest goal you’ll see all day and the best part is all Krejci.
🎥 Coach Cassidy on the play of David Krejci: “He’s re-energized in terms of attacking. That was an all-world play tonight, obviously, beating guys 1-on-1…he’s got a guy on his left wing that can bomb down the wing and a guy on his right wing that can skate.” pic.twitter.com/qCPYzhlxZb

Taylor Hall is good and I was wrong to say I didn’t want him
I think that sums it up.
Brad Marchand now leads the franchise in short-handed goals with 31
There is just something so special about Brad. This year he has been the lone constant, the beating heart of the team, sticking up for his teammates while wearing the heavy letter and mostly staying out of trouble. He’s grown up so much and I love it and him. He’s just so great at this aspect of the game.
Well, if the Patriots don’t get Fields, maybe Brad Marchand can fill in at QB?

His goal was the final nail in last night’s game coffin.
Last night both the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins clinched playoff spots in the same game, a game in which the Pens won in OT but the Caps loser point allowed them to have the same amount of points (the nice total of 69) while having a game in hand on the Pens.
The New York Islanders have not clinched yet but remain one point ahead of the Bruins who have a game in hand and one game left to play against them. The Bruins benefited from a New York Rangers loss to the Islanders. The Rangers are in fifth place with 58 points in 51 games played.
River in Monroe is ripping!!! Too rich for my blood. These levels bring out the psychos!
Morning all. Had a dream last night I was trying to escape a zombie invasion. I was unsuccessful. Woke up just as the zombie mob surrounded me. Shame, really, because it was lovely sunny day otherwise!
It’s just like they say – some days, you get the bull.

Some days the zombie gets you.
Zombies need love, too!
Good morning!
It’s a good day around our house – though it would have been better if we were a few weeks further along in escaping the pandemic.
My job continues to get weirder. My organization had the 4th re-organization of the year yesterday. It’s insane. Our company finally has the size, reputation and necessary parts to compete with our larger competitors, and we’re shooting ourselves in the foot over and over again. I am not prepared to look for another job, but they are not making it easy.
Glad you’re having a good day.
I’m feeling cautiously optimistic about the pandemic in this country. We’ve eased a few restrictions, but the numbers keep coming down, though we’ll never be rid of it, I’m sure.
Had my first beer in a pub since last summer the other day. Or rather, a beer outside a pub, in a cold, drizzly beer garden that was empty before I arrived. I felt obliged to help the local economy! (and had a pint of the best porter I’ve ever tasted!)
GH had a pub visit with some friends about a week or two back. I would have loved to go, but I’m being super careful with exposure until I get at least a couple of weeks past my first jab, and it was also conflicting with work. It sounds like she had fun.
I went to the inn up the road in Vermont to watch A game last week. No masks, no distancing… I know there have been very few cases here, but… been listening on the radio ever since
Good Morning!
It was worth waiting for that third period! The Bruins may have taken their foot off the gas a couple times, but responded whenever the Sabres challenged them. Really, this was Tuukka’s win. He kept them in the game while they were fucking about. Very happy to see Coyle off the schneid. A nice goal, too! He probably feels like a weight has been lifted off his back! Why, if everyone can get hot at once….
Heading back north. Jo to follow tonight! She’s coming out of the second shot funk.
Yeah, they did. That first Buffalo goal was always coming. Even the worst team in the league is going to score when you consistently make stupid plays and gift them high-danger opportunities.
Really happy for him. He made a superb play early in the game which wouldn’t have shown up on any stats sheet, and he’s done that quite a few times during his goal drought.
Hope Jo feels better.
After I crowed about McAvoy having such a good year, he had loads of spots where he wasn’t getting to pucks, and wasn’t seeing where his teammates were. Serves me right for complementing a guy.
I’ll have to go back to bitching about ways in which players are falling short.
That was well-timed goal from Coyle. There are a lot of pieces of this team that seem to be coming together in time for the playoffs. Tuukka’s back – he was the best player of the game last night. Pasta is showing hints of his old self again. Marchand has been consistent all year. The 2nd line is da bomb.
If Coyle’s confidence has returned, then that is big. Having the 3rd line be a scoring threat would be important for a team that has had their playoff runs cut short the past few seasons due to lack of scoring depth.
The 4th line doesn’t quite have it together yet. Lazar has been good but not a sea-change there. I’m not sure what Cassidy is looking for from DeBrusk that he isn’t seeing. Tony Amonte pointed out that DeBrusk isn’t the kind of player who makes his center better, he’s more taking care of his own shit. Is Cassidy trying to change that?
Plenty of teams would love a top line like them, especially in their current form. Krejci is warming up at the perfect time! I didn’t realise he was as old as 35. Doesn’t play too heavy a game though, hopefully get a couple more years at least in his window.
Good to hear that Jo is getting thru the unpleasantness of the second shot.
I just read that the immunity conferred by a single shot isn’t as good as previously reported (the UK & South African strains had just emerged when the previous study had come out), so any thoughts I may have had about taking my time to get the 2nd shot are gone.
Glad to hear Jo is getting better. Satan81 ended up taking yesterday off work because the second shot funk hit him like a truck. I suppose I should be a good sister and ask how he’s feeling.
Jo made it through most of the day. She came home early and went to bed. I think the staying hydrated helped. Thanks, GH!
