Game Day Thread – Round 1 Game 2: Bruins @ Caps

The playoffs are here. Bruins are visiting the Washington Capitals for the 2nd of the first two games of this round. See it on NBC, CBC, TVAS or SportsNet. We are starting a little later than usual tonight – 7:30 EDT. That is common for games at the Capital One Arena.

The Bruins lost game 1 in overtime after only generating 21 shots on net, and having some issues in zone entry. The Caps were good at limiting the Bergeron line and were able to contain the Krejci-Hall-Smith line by physically punishing David Krejci. But that was only one game. There’s a lot more hockey to be played.

What will be the lines today?

The Injury Report: Ondrej Kaše is still out. Jeremy Lauzon got a maintenance day, skipping this morning’s practice. Connor Clifton will play in his stead. Will he help the Bruins generate more shots? Possibly. Will he put the Bruins on the PK more than Lauzon would? Also a possibility. Just no 3-on-5 situations, please!

It looks like they’re going to bump Charlie Coyle back over to center, and put Kuraly on the 4th LW.

Tuukka Rask is in net, Jeremy Swayman will be his backup.

Tonight’s opponents are the Washington Capitals. The Caps picked up Anthony Mantha and Michael Raffl at the trade deadline.
Vitek Vanecek screwed up his lower body trying to block a shot on Sunday. Craig Anderson finished the game for him. Vanacek was not at practice today and his status is reportedly “day-to-day”. Forward Evgeny Kuznetsov and goaltender Ilya Samsonov are back from COVID protocol. I expect Anderson to get the start with Phoenix Copley as backup. Kuznetsov was not fully participating in practice, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him in the lineup. (h/t Daily Faceoff and the Washington Post’s Samantha Pell @SamanthaJPell):
