Morning Free Association: Game On

Unfortunately, the Boston Bruins dropped the first game of their first round series against the Washington Capitals. Jake DeBrusk got one by their starting goalie Vitek Vanacek, who left the game with an injury when he did the splits to react to the shot. Nick Ritchie would be the only Bruins player who would score on Vanacek’s replacement, Craig Anderson, who only appeared in five games this season. While the Bruins held the Capitals to a tie game in the third, they managed to lose it on the first Caps shot in the extra period.

Tonight, the Capitals will not have to rely on Craig Anderson to start since Ilya Samsonov is now out of COVID protocol. For the record, Evgeny Kuznetsov is also off that list. This could be problematic for the Bruins.

The Bruins’ problem wasn’t in net but with offense and that is the focus for tonight’s game. There will be no changes up front or in net.

Tonight’s start is 7:30pm.

I planted my first tomato plant of the season yesterday.

And, we entertained some friends for the first time in well over a year!
I am starting to feel like a real human being again!

Excellent.

We’ve got our biggest easing for a long time today. I’m not massively comfortable with it, with the Indian variant causing trouble round these parts. That’s why I wanted to go to London last week – get a trip in before we throw caution to the wind. We’ll see. I’ve got my first shot on Thursday.

That’s awesome! I’ve been conditioning some plants to outdoor life, but haven’t committed them to the ground, yet. Still conditioning the friends, too.:-)

Good Morning!
Tough loss, to be sure. Jo and drove up to the Readsboro Inn to watch. A guy comes and sits at the table next to us, we start to chat. He’s a ref about 10 years younger than me, running in overlapping circles with guys I reffed with many times. Small world, eh? I realized later that I wore my black Bauer warm up suit to the bar. I’m sure that guy recognized it immediately.
A good game, not a great one. It would have been nice to steal the first game, but the boys have to put that one behind them.
Sorry I missed the chat Saturday. I see Phony and Anthony chimed in! Awesome!!

Ha! Figured you must have been wearing something that said ‘ref’ to the practiced eye. That’s awesome.

It was good to see some old familiar faces in the game thread.

Morning all,

Plenty to be positive about in that game. I thought Bs were the better side overall, despite not playing their best (understandably, given the occasion). Both Caps’ regular-time goals were flukey. No need to panic yet!

True that. A lot of playoff goals are flukey as good teams are playing good D. The Bruins need bounces!!!

The Bruins had some good stuff at times, but didn’t get as many pucks on net as they should have. they can and will play better tonight.
