Morning Free Association: It’s Over

I’m writing this just after 9pm on Wednesday night while the Bruins are currently losing to the Islanders. The Islanders have just gone up 4-1 after I made some private remarks to friends that Tuukka wasn’t moving right. I hope he’s pulled for the third period. At this point we’ve turned off the game, IW has retreated to the basement to get away from this misery, and I’m wondering if I want to try again in the third. I watched the last goal that went in against by Kyle Palmieri without commentary thinking that it would be better. It wasn’t.

Boston’s solitary goal came on the power play by Brad Marchand to tie up the game.

Charlie McAvoy was temporarily knocked out of the game and into the room by Kyle Palmieri with a high shoulder hit. Pierre McGuire continually repeated that the hit was after the whistle, continually defending the hit. I sure hope that DOPS looks at it…and gives him the inevitable $5000 fine.

What’s curious is that NO ONE, not one Bruins player stepped up to fight Palmieri and even pressure him in any way after the hit and after the small scrum afterward. Instead, the team has let the opposing number 21 run roughshod all over them eventually scoring a backbreaking goal.

9:33pm:

I was hoping for a change.

Brad Marchand scores a goal again on the power play.

4-2, Isles.

10:02pm:

It’s over. Isles scored twice more.

The uncertainty of the Bruins roster is now not a future concern but a present one. Lots of moving parts that can’t be shored up until after the Seattle Expansion Draft. I for one am not looking forward to it.

You know, in a perverse way, I’m glad the Bruins are out. I’ve been struggling with work issues, and having the NHL basically in control of my schedule has been a major source of stress.

In more positive stuff: I am enjoying the cool down. Dang near perfect weather for the morning walk!

Yesterday was crazy hot here. I went to the beer garden while Leah had her dance class and had to keep switching tables to get some shade! Not a cloud in the sky. It’s a bit more pleasant today.

Oh yeah, I forgot he was here! Funny, last time a US President visited there was a lot more about it in the news … silly

It was pretty comfortable this morning when I took boomer out briefly. This could be a really nice day in the making.

It’s nice to give the AC a break and open windows. Nice breezy fresh air.

Ughhh. Well that went about as expected.

I wouldnt say the Isles were the better team necessarily but they played better and deserved to win the series. They knew how to handle the Bs. We made mistakes and they capitalised.

Jeez, I forgot about the expansion draft. Hmmm. The Kraken could end up with a decent team, and theyve got second overall pick. Vegas mkII?

Hi Pals.
Tough morning. Hard to believe there was no call on Palmieri. I don’t think it would have made a difference. Changes gonna come.

Yeah, I don’t think it would have made much difference. Maybe the Bs get a PP goal, but they were being outplayed 5×5.

However, not getting the penalty on that really ruined the game for me. I mean, they aren’t gonna catch everything, and they are going to let some stuff go, but a hit to the face after the whistle – if you can’t bother to suggest to the players that attempting to injure an opponent is bad, then why even have officials on the ice?
Of course the Bruins were the next team to have a man in the penalty box, giving up a goal.
The Islanders were clearly targeting McAvoy, the dude got kneed, slashed, intentionally checked in the face until he had to get pulled from the game, then the Islanders scored.

Then the Bruins got caught with their pants down and gave up another lickety-split. I was done with the game at that point.

I bet that there is no supplemental discipline interest from DOPS in ether the head hit or the kneeing. It’s been strangely one-sided from them.
