Morning Free Association: Free Agency Is Here! (at Noon)

Today is the day for Boston to make some moves. One or two defensemen. Maybe some more depth. A goaltender? How about figuring out what David Krejci will do?

Well, it seems that the Bruins have wrapped up one defenseman, signing Mike Reilly to a 3-year deal at $3 million per according to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic.

Still, no official word from the team.

As for Keith Yandle, it looks like he might be calling Philadelphia his home for the season.

It looks like the best option could be Jake McCabe if they want to improve that left side.

As for David Krejci, he appears to be heading back to the Bruins according to Kirk Luedeke.

This is fantastic news but it still hasn’t been confirmed by the Bruins. If he isn’t coming back, the Bruins will have to look to the open market or trade for that second line center. There are plenty of names and at the top of that list is Ryan Getzlaf, whose time with Anaheim has come to an end. Other names that come up are Mikael Granlund and Phillip Danault. Danault, formerly of Montreal, is the youngest of the three and most similar to a Krejci type as one can get right now.

If for some reason none of these options come to fruition, there’s always the trade that the Bruins were reportedly seeking of Christian Dvorak from Arizona. Those talks slowed down after the Coyotes managed to pull off a trade of Oliver Ekman-Larsson (and 88% of his terrible contract) no doubt sweetened the deal with coveted RFA Conor Garland, who signed a new contract; in return they got the corpses of Antoinne Roussel, Loui Eriksson, and Jay Beagle.

So, today I will be glued to the TV and Twitter all day to report on what happens in this first full day.

Admitting right here that I am scared of the jab. I will be doing it pretty soon. There are some events, mostly live music and hockey fans uniting, that I really want to attend. I wouldn’t go to them without the vaccine, so….

You’ll be fine, mate. You’re more likely to get hurt on your way to the vaccination centre than from the jab itself.
Not sure about Modrrna, but the vaxxes we have here tend to give worse side effects to young folks, and more mature people tend to avoid any. I had nothing apart from a slightly sore arm for a couple of days (which I sometimes get anyway if I’ve slept in a funny position!)

Thank you. Building my courage! Punch me in the face – fine. Put me upside down in a class 4 rapid and smash my head around – fine….. Approach me with a tiny needle that can save my life….. Jesus! No! *hiding head under pillow and crying* Please, God, no!!!!

I do believe in science. I try to educate myself about the vaccine…. I cannot even explain my hesitation

There’s really no help for it. Just gotta get over it and go.
I’ve found that if I don’t watch the actual injection that it’s easier for me.
For me it turned out not to be too bad – the first one was easy-peasy — no real side effects other than my own psyche. The second shot was much like a tetanus shot, but I was a little tired the next day as well.

Hey, fully vaxxed Americans are allowed into the UK without quarantining from Monday. Just sayin!

Good morning!!
Glad Reilly is back in the fold. $3 mil per is a bargain for him, IMO. Granted, he had a career year last season, but fit in well in Boston and no reason for any decline at this point.
Nick Foligno is available. If he would take a bottom 6 role, he would be a great addition to this team. Fantasy stats have dipped a bit lately, but his plus/ minus is great and he has a degree of grit.
Brendan Smith is also a UFA. Very versatile guy. Left shot, can play either side D, can even play wing. 32, $3.3 mil or so last year. Big boy – 6-0, 200lbs… Why not

Also, pretty obvious that Yandle has never had any desire to play for the Bruins. A travel team I played with (NY Commuters) would have team dinners where an individual was roasted. All the funny stories about him were told, then the roasted would be given a special toast….. ” Him, ….him….. Fuck him!!!!” We shouted it in jest, but I now offer it to Yandle with due candor.

The guy had opportunities. I had assumed that he really liked money and didn’t care where he ended up and that Boston was only making rational offers of money (wrt the salary cap). Recently I’ve come to believe that he’d just rather not be here.

The year is 2381. The apocalypse has come and gone. All of humanity has been wiped out except for one lonely hockey insider. With his final dying breath he rasps: “Hearing….rumors….of….Yandle….to…..Boston.”

Fin.
