Morning Free Association: New Coaches

I’m officially still on vacation. It’s true. But, what good am I as a team player without an assist or two. And my laptop was repaired and back in my arms within 3 days!

Some time ago, we talked about the two Jays, Pandolfo and Leach, flying the coop and who might replace them. Well, the Boston Bruins made some decisions and announced them late last week.

Chris Kelly joined the Boston Bruins in the role of Player Development Coordinator in July 2019. He worked under Jamie Langenbrunner, who took over from Jay Pandolfo when he was elevated to an assistant under head coach Bruce Cassidy. While some thought that Langenbrunner might make the same move that his predecessor did, it was Kelly who did. Kelly previously worked as an assistant coach in 2019 with the Ottawa Senators after joining the team as a development coach after his retirement. Chris Kelly joins Kevin Dean and Joe Sacco behind the bench as assistants.

Kelly said that it was a no-brainer to come back to Boston, a team that he enjoyed as a player that still had success. And now he’s the boss of his former teammates from the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand.

Adam McQuaid had a bit of a tryout with regards to player development earlier this month during development camp with Langenbrunner stating that Adam could have a job if he wanted it. Well, he did. A new father and newly retired, McQuaid is fortunate to get back with the team with which he played the majority of his career. He looks forward to spending time in Providence as well as travelling around to the various colleges at which Bruins prospects are playing this season.

Finally, the Providence Bruins promoted Ryan Mougenel from assistant coach to head coach.

Having another coach rise up through the ranks to take over ensures that the Bruins coaches have a continuity of development philosophy. Mougenel has been in the system since 2018-19.

Cold showers are good for the circulation? Possibly.

Morning,

Good to see Quaider and Kelly back. Kelly always seemed like a good leader. I like when organisations remember their former servants.

Due to fly to Slovakia on Saturday. Covid tests arrived this morning. We have to take them, send them off, and hope to get the (negative) results back before the flight. Then hope we are allowed to board the plane and are allowed into the country when we get there! Finding out everything that’s needed is no easy task – partly because they keep changing their minds.

Ah well, if it all works out it will be worth it. Slovakia in the summer is one of my favourite places in the world. Pretty good in the winter too, come to that!

Phew! Good luck with the tests. I am joining the “vaxxed” on Monday….not a fan, but will do it for Jo. She wants to visit family. I have seen photos of Slovakia…. It compares favorably with Monrovia! We will accept your tests here(probably not in the rest of the US). Direct flights to Monrovia are pretty rare!

Direct flights to Monrovia are pretty rare!

There’s a small airport about 3 miles from here, and also a similar one a similar distance from Sonia’s home city. Just for fun I looked to see how much it would cost to charter a private flight. £10,000 one-way! We won’t be doing that. Ever. Judging by the amount of air traffic, plenty of people do, though!

I’m told that direct flights to Monrovia are pretty scant on the in-flight amenities

We used to have a tiny airport about two miles away, and we were in one of the flight paths. It was all two-seater prop planes so not too disruptive. It closed up a couple of years ago and they plowed up the runway in hopes of selling the land to the likes of a condominium developer. We were sad to see it go.
We had some friends who lived in the condo complex next door, and it was weird seeing planes take off right out the second story windows.

We’re right on the glide path, but like you say it’s nearly all light planes.

The Red Arrows use it as a stop-off when they do shows in Europe. Pretty cool when they come over to land.

Good morning!
Today I feel a lil stupid. I had no idea that Barry was something to watch. I thought you were giving a new cat a watch so it would know when you are coming home… maybe it cooks supper? grin
We are currently watching “Luther”, BBC crime series. It’s pushing the comfort zone for us, but his head game with femme fatale Alice Morgan is awesome.

Glad ol’ Cageface and Quaider are back in the fold. Two great guys, imo(based on nothing).

“Honey, can you watch the cat tonight? He’s been assassinating people again. You don’t need to clean his kitty litter, but don’t let him out and hide his ammunition.” lol

Hahahahaha! And Nugget definitely doesn’t need a watch, she’s very good at reminding me when it’s feeding time! lol
