Morning Free Association: New Week

Man oh man, am I so happy that this Patriots – Bucs game is over. One less sports thing on the plate to worry about. I know Sox fans are psyched that they clinched the wild card. And of course, Bruins fans are glad that the preseason is winding down and that the new season is mercifully only 12 days away.

The B’s played a game on Saturday against the Rags. They looked terrific in the first period, less so in the second, and finally the third and overtime were not great either, with them dropping the game 4-3 after not scoring since the opening frame. To add insult to injury, the Bruins also lost the shootout, which meant nothing anyway. Tonight they play the Flyers again in Philadelphia in the penultimate game before the new season begins on October 16th. Wednesday they’ll be back at home against the Capitals. Both games are available on NESN.

To be honest, I’m a little worried about what I’ve seen from Linus Ullmark. I know these games mean nothing and this is his first action with his new team but I still don’t like some of what he’s let get by him. Bruce Cassidy seems to be confident that with reps, he’ll get better.

In the past few days, the Bruins have made some roster cuts. Fabian Lysell has been sent to the WHL’s Vancouver Giants. The Providence Bruins welcome Callum Booth (G), Jeremy Brodeur (G), Jack Dougherty (D), Ian McKinnon (F), Andrew Peski (D), Eduards Tralmaks (F), and Alex-Olivier Voyer (F).

After Wednesday night’s game, the B’s have 10 days to rest and set the roster.

Morning all.

Nice to see Brad in mid-season shorty form. That was a beaut.

Dog walking yesterday. We decided to cut through a small wood but got hopelessly lost and struggled to find our way out again! Blair Witch vibes. Poor Woody was very confused, but full of enthusiasm. He’s a dog after all.

Ullmark isn’t a headliner in net, but has seemed competent when the B’s have played against him, still, he isn’t a star. His career numbers are average for a modern ‘tender. On the first goal against, he lost sight of where the puck was for a bit when it was carried behind his net, so was out of position when the shot happened, and his SV% was not good last night.

This one was particularly painful to watch.

I’m hoping Swayman continues on the impressive path he’s started on. Ullmark is bound to be a little frustrating to watch after the Tuukka Dobby Halak Vladar Swayman goaltending we’ve gotten used to seeing.

Well, good to get those out of the way in preseason!

Did Tuukka do this once? I seem to remember Hags having Tuukka on the trading block after a similar event grin

Ouch! Hadn’t seen that one live. The biggest Tuukka gaffe I can recall was one where a puck glided toward net from the far blue line and he slipped as he was casually positioning himself, falling on his butt and whiffing on the puck as it trickled by him into the goal.

Still got one AC unit sitting out. Need to get it cleaned off, a dolly ready and a space to store it.

Good morning!
Did not see the game. Ullmark will he some adjustments to make no doubt. He probably had to stretch like the rubberman for some of the shots he saw in Buffalo. Staff will have him playing a quieter game here… I want to see Swayman in the number one slot. Hopefully Cassidy will continue his “stay with the hot hand” style and let things sort out naturally. I think the roster moves were as expected… Exhibition games get a lil mo competitive now.
Great whitewater weekend. I am in midseason form….as the season closes :-0. Next weekend is the last scheduled whitewater release on the class 4 section. A rather large celly will ensue. Berkley School musicians and instructors playing music, lots of food, people in town for the last time until spring. If anyone has an inkling, you would have a great time. Music under the stars Saturday evening and well into the night. shenanigans will ensue!

We boat with some Berkley staff pretty often. They bring students that boat. Brooke Sofferman is one of the crew homie can play!
We’re setting up our own thing. Oh yeah, we have a chef coming, too!

Sounds like that will be an excellent night!

We’re not going to be refunded for my and Leah’s missed flights last month – despite us paying for the cancellation insurance. Apparently the small print says you’re not covered if you can’t go because of a pandemic! So that’s put me off making any travel plans for a while.

From today, though, fully vaxxed people are allowed into the UK without having to take a test, so things are at least heading in the right direction.
