Morning Free Association: One Day Closer

It’s our 400th straight day of rain* and I feel that it’s no longer just an outdoor phenomenon, I feel like it’s raining inside my house, inside my brain, and inside my heart.

Anyway. The Bruins played again last night. The roster was heavy on future Providence Bruins and some other players still fighting for roster spots like Chris Wagner, Connor Clifton, and John Moore. Jack Studnicka scored the B’s sole goal in the 2-1 overtime loss.

So, one more game to go in this preseason.

Hiya.

Decent performance last night.

Should we be concerned about the goalie situation? There’s a lot to like about Swayman but he’s got plenty of room for improvement. It’s a long season, I guess, and he will learn a lot. Not convinced by Ullmark, but haven’t really seen enough of him to pass judgement.

It’s definitely hard to judge a goaltender based on 2 preseason games.

Ullmark seemed better when we’ve seen him playing for Buffalo, but not a show-stopper by any means. Swayman has been solid, but he’s so young – we’ve seen him in what, a dozen games? There’s plenty of room for opposing teams to find his weaknesses as well as for him to grow as a player.
It should be interesting (by which I mean there will be a lot of frustration every time one of these guys makes a mistake wink )

Jordan Binnington and Carter Hart have done okay as very young goalies. I feel Swayman has the right mindset and can be number one. Ullmark is insurance. Tuukka may be available if things aren’t working out. It’s going to be as good as this team makes it!

Sounds like it! I read those stories. Lots of people take sleepers on a long flight don’t they? Is he implying they were forced to take them? If he’s talking about prescription drugs that’s different I suppose.

I think Ambien is prescription. Would think the team would hand out OTC drugs -melatonin & the like. But abusing prescription pain relievers is pretty common for pro sports teams, I would not be surprised if that were that case for other stuff (like sleep aids) too.

Am definitely liking what I’m seeing out of Jack Studnicka. Of course, the question is: does he fit on this team?
Who’s fighting for the 4 center spots right now? Bergy, Coyle, Haula, Nosek, Lazar, Studnicka? I seem to recall that Foligno was possibly in the running as well?
That’s like 6 guys gunning for 3 spots. Studnicka is the only one I wouldn’t feel comfortable pushing to the wing. I think Brick was saying Nosek probably had 4C locked and Lazar was probably fighting for a wing position. That leaves Coyle, Haula, Foligno competing for 2C & 3C

It’s getting tight.

Haula is comfortable at wing, as is Nosek. I really would like to see Foligno center Coyle and DeBrusk on third line. I see what you mean, tho. Lots of competition at tose positions… remember how much depth we thought we had at D once? grin

Good morning!
Studs is stating his case! That kid does not want to go to Providence. Somebody more but lose a spot. Competition is good!
Yup, rainy and cold. That means harvest time in Monrovia. Thank heaven! The air in this neighborhood was getting pretty heady.
Foodstuffs grow here, too. Neighbors brought apples, blueberries, and more hen of the woods on Saturday. There’s a pretty large BBQ party in our front yard on boating days. Going to miss that this winter…. that’s where the Bruins can help. We need a winning season, because there is nothing and no one here in the winter
