Morning Free Association: 2021 Roster

So we’re days away from the NHL season opener and about 4 or so days away from the Boston Bruins opener. This weekend the team made the final adjustments to the roster, sending a couple of players down to Providence to get the roster down to 21. Rosters were due to the NHL at 5pm Monday.

But now things are a little different. Even though both Chris Wagner and John Moore had cleared waivers on Sunday, John Moore has been moved back onto the official roster. Yesterday Bruce Cassidy said that the two players could continue to skate in Boston, implying that these were just paper moves and that neither player would see ice time in Providence. However, he also acknowledged that both players were edged out by younger players at their positions. Whether or not they stay in Boston or head to Providence is all up to Don Sweeney.

At this time the roster is comprised of 14 forwards , 8 defensemen, and 2 goalies. Curtis Lazar will start the year on IR; this transaction occurred yesterday. Karson Kuhlman will take Lazar’s roster spot until he can return, which may not be for a while since he is considered week-to-week with an UBI. Both Kuhlman and Anton Blidh have made the official roster as the extra forwards. Neither player is waivers exempt, so that might have also played a part in the decision to keep them in Boston for now. John Moore likely took the roster spot that Lazar had; he’s also insurance if a defenseman goes down since he can play both sides.

Before I reveal the roster I have to tell you that Jack Studnicka did not make the cut. Fear not, he’ll get called up at some point, but the B’s are pretty full at center right now.

Forwards:

Brad Marchand – Patrice Bergeron – David Pastrnak
Taylor Hall – Charlie Coyle – Craig Smith
Jake DeBrusk – Erik Haula – Nick Foligno
Trent Frederic – Tomas Nosek – (Curtis Lazar) Karson Kuhlman
Anton Blidh

Defensemen:

Derek Forbort – Charlie McAvoy
Mike Reilly – Brandon Carlo
Matt Grzelcyk – Connor Clifton
Jakub Zboril – John Moore

Goalies:

Linus Ullmark
Jeremy Swayman

Aaaarrrrgggh!
I was making a ricotta-mascarpone cannoli filling – and one needs to drain the liquid whey from the ricotta curds before doing so – a process which has taken almost 3 days. Now I’m so excited to try my new recipe, I open the mascarpone and it is prematurely moldy!

I’ll…. be in the corner crying now.

Ok, I’ll be at the checkout line of the annoying supermarket getting some new mascarpone.

Premature Mold would be an awesome band name.

My Twitter viewing this morning is a success

saw some politics things I needed to see happen,
saw a reference to the old SNL “Babs’ uvula” skit,
saw a punter recover his own blocked punt and kick it again

and a random Trixie & Katya gif from a completely unrelated source.

I saw there’s a “Hosts Introducing the Musical Acts on SNL” twitter account. I may need to investigate this further.

Hi folks,

I think it was Studnicka Jack & Brick were talking about the other day. Brick said it was much, much better to play a ton of minutes in Providence than a few minutes a night in the NHL at his stage. Obviously Cassidy agrees.

Looks like I’ll be working from the office on Thursday – first time since February 2020. I’m excited for the lunch options – and to find out what’s in my locker!

Hopefully, that which resides in your locker is not that which was your lunch option from February 2020!

Good morning! Getting excited for real hockey! Not surprised that Studs went to Providence as Sweenius wants him in a top nine role and at center. His turn will come.
Jo and I took a day to recover from the weekend…. I might need another one!

Was really rooting for Studs after seeing him in preseason play, but Haula is a better option right now.
Am sad, yet not sad.
