So we’re days away from the NHL season opener and about 4 or so days away from the Boston Bruins opener. This weekend the team made the final adjustments to the roster, sending a couple of players down to Providence to get the roster down to 21. Rosters were due to the NHL at 5pm Monday.
But now things are a little different. Even though both Chris Wagner and John Moore had cleared waivers on Sunday, John Moore has been moved back onto the official roster. Yesterday Bruce Cassidy said that the two players could continue to skate in Boston, implying that these were just paper moves and that neither player would see ice time in Providence. However, he also acknowledged that both players were edged out by younger players at their positions. Whether or not they stay in Boston or head to Providence is all up to Don Sweeney.
At this time the roster is comprised of 14 forwards , 8 defensemen, and 2 goalies. Curtis Lazar will start the year on IR; this transaction occurred yesterday. Karson Kuhlman will take Lazar’s roster spot until he can return, which may not be for a while since he is considered week-to-week with an UBI. Both Kuhlman and Anton Blidh have made the official roster as the extra forwards. Neither player is waivers exempt, so that might have also played a part in the decision to keep them in Boston for now. John Moore likely took the roster spot that Lazar had; he’s also insurance if a defenseman goes down since he can play both sides.
Before I reveal the roster I have to tell you that Jack Studnicka did not make the cut. Fear not, he’ll get called up at some point, but the B’s are pretty full at center right now.
