Morning Free Association: Low Bandwidth

I’ll be honest, it’s been an exhausting last few days for me.

I took a quick trip to Philly to get away. I was supposed to play a Pokemon Go (don’t judge) event that had been planned for Philly on my birthday last year but was postponed until this year due to Covid. The problem was that the weather was uncooperative and by the time I found the event and parking, the storm was rolling through and I wasn’t feeling it. So, I drove back to my hotel and decided to museum hop in the Old City.

I had never seen the Liberty Bell, so I took my time learning about it in it’s museum. After that, I walked over to a science museum dedicated to chemistry. Yes, I am a nerd. That night I went to see a movie and got splashed on the way back. So much fun.

Down in Philly, the Covid restrictions are similar to what they were in MA about a year ago, which made dining out a real hard or uncomfortable thing to do, so I basically ate take out in my room. After a couple of nights away, I was ready to go home. I missed my boys.

I left on Saturday morning after the valet finally found my car and drove straight to the Boston area to pick up Satan81 to go to the Bruins game. The game was good and the B’s won, so what more could you ask for. Charlie Coyle was the poster boy and the hero. It was all good. I arrived at home after midnight to a sleepy dog and a husband who was already asleep.

Halloween day and night was a whirlwind, leaving me tired on Monday. So, I apologise for having low bandwidth today. There’s news to talk about but not much Bruins news, so let’s just take a break today.

Finished a great read yesterday. Los anos con Laura Diaz by Carlos Fuentes.. A marathon, but super well written and deep. The years with Laura Diaz in English.
I have to take a mental day off before starting another book!

I am fairly fluent in Spanish…. if there’s a word I don’t know, it’s probably not in the various dictionaries I have, nor is it found in Google translate … :-0

Hi folks,

I’d like to visit Philadelphia, I think.

Brits are allowed into the US again, for the timebeing at least. I’m fine with going out and about my business now but not too keen on international travel yet.

My English niece and nephew have both got Covid atm, and my brother-in-law has possibly got it, though he had it already in February. He’s had one positive and one negative test … Not wishing to tempt fate, but I may now actually be in a small minority of people I know who have not had it.

I’m on a mini health kick for November. I need to otherwise by the end of the year none of my clothes will fit! Crisp sunny mornings recently which is great motivation to get out for a brisk walk. Might be a different story when the weather turns ….

Trying to be active can be so difficult in nasty weather! Once you are out in it, with the right clothing, it’s fine. Finding the motivation to get out there in bad weather…… ugh

Yeah, outdoor stuff isn’t as enjoyable when you’re bundled up, your shoes are soaking up dew and the sunlight isn’t reflecting off all the flora. Definitely a higher threshold to get over and get out there

Good morning!
Breaks are good! Sounds like a great trip, GH even though your event was sort of a washout. I am a closet nerd (science except computers!) so would have enjoyed the bell and the museum. You’ve just put an idea in my head as we have some art museums over here (massmoca, Clark art museum, Norman Rockwell museum). Good way to spend the rotten days!
Day of rest yesterday…. we did nothing all day!

A last word about steep creeking…. I only do it with the right crew. When I got in a jam, I looked back upstream and my friends were getting ready, in case I couldn’t solve my own problem. It gave me a little piece of mind and allowed me to concentrate on getting out of my jam. I’ve walked away from a river when conditions or crew weren’t right. Some steep creekers have a death wish, will paddle anything….. I like a calculated risk.
