Morning Free Association: Bruins Beat the Tootsies

For the first time in nearly 2 years, the Boston Bruins beat the Ottawa Senators. Now that is a bit misleading on its own seeing that the teams haven’t met in that span of time. But, the B’s didn’t win that last meeting, so this is good.

The win was Bruce Cassidy’s 200th win with the club.

The B’s are still perfect through 5 games at home, on the road not so much. However, the win helped them leapfrog the Buffalo Sabres in the standings for 5th place.

Jeremy Swayman is also perfect at home with a 3-0 record.

Truthfully, I didn’t watch the game (see yesterdays MFA) except for halfway through the third. By that point, Patrice Bergeron had scored the game winner and they were trying to defend that lead. I would say they were trying to score again except that between Bruins players who couldn’t really make good shots, decided to pass when they should have shot, and the aggressive poke checks by the Sens defense, that wasn’t happening.

Bruins goals by Brad Marchand, Derek Forbort, and Patrice Bergeron. There’s some real trick plays in there.

Of course, there were some other things happening in this very physical game. Charlie McAvoy was making some big hits.

Charlie Coyle was as well.

Connor Clifton would receive a cross-check that went uncalled and decided to take matters intgo his own fists.

Trent Frederic was knocked out of the game with an upper body injury on this hit. Cassidy would later say that he had no further information yet.

We’ll find out more about him tomorrow.

One thing I did learn from this game is that Jack Edwards properly pronounces Ottawa forward Tim Stützle. I can hear Sis call him “Stutzel” now.

The Bruins will face a real test on Thursday when Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl roll into town on Thursday.

Morning all. My radio show co-host texted me this morning to cancel the show tonight because he’s had a sore throat the past couple of days. shock Even more shock is he and his girlfriend are supposed to be going to The Netherlands soon! Fingers crossed it’s not the thing!

I can hear Sis call him “Stutzel” now.

Stutzel is really an underrated dish in German cuisine. I wish more places made it.

Oh, hope he’s ok. There’s an awful lot of bad colds going around in England atm – dont know if it’s the same over there.

Has he taken a test? We have about four boxes of lateral flow tests in the house (Leah has to test twice a week for school).

There are bad cold/ flu/ not covid things going around over here. I am in favor of a travel ban between monrovia and the u.s.

http://www.wmrw.org is the website to access the streaming. It’s a fun little station.

Hiya folks.

Fun game, though not a very polished performance. A lot of bad decisions, two players going for the same puck, etc. Do we blame coaching for that? Maybe just the stop-start beginning of the season the Bs have had.

Away game for the darts team tonight. I’ve never been to the pub before but they are renowned for their pizzas.

Lucky Wednesdays dont count towards my ‘healthy November’!

Twwo players going for the same puck!

That was always a no no, at least when i was taught. Now, i think that teams will flood an area in order to outman opponents. Like overloading a zone D in basketball. Problem is, when you don’t win the puck somebody is really open…. an opponent!

Exactly! All that rink and only five of them out there – no good two of them being in the same place.

It’s a bit different if theres a battle along the boards or in the corner – by all means pile in – but not out in the open.

Good morning!
Toot! Toot! The Tootsies were more trouble than tribbles last night. I guess a win by any other victory would smell as sweet… or something like that. That Bergy goal! Hand/ eye coordination off the charts.
Jo is hobbling around still. Bum knee from too much disc golf, we think. Anyway, princess treatment for awhile…

Evolution really dropped the ball on knee design. For what we put them through, they really are not sturdy!

Spoiler
And at some point I should stop ignoring my knee and maybe think about actually perhaps getting it checked out.

Knees are really complicated! Why can’t they just be like elbows!?
