The Boston Bruins played back-to-back games this weekend: on Saturday in Newark against the Devils and at home on Sunday against the Montreal Canadiens. Boston won both games by identical records, 5-2. The scores do not really tell the whole story of those games since the B’s didn’t really dominate either game and waited until the third period to put it away.
Is it fun to beat a downtrodden Montreal Canadiens team (4-11-2)? Turns out the answer is yes.
But the real story of the weekend was that everything was coming up Charlie. On Saturday afternoon, Charlie McAvoy assisted on 3 Bruins goals: 2 by Brad Marchand and 1 byPatrice Bergeron. And on Sunday night, he broke loose, scoring 2 goals of his own.
His first came well into the 2nd period when he barreled down the ice to back up Nick Foligno and pick up his rebound.

After this goal, IW joked that McAvoy has a new player to truck who isn’t Tuukka Rask.

Then, he did it again, unassisted and without banging into the old man netfront.
Charlie McAvoy … again.

In the past 7 games, McAvoy has 10 points (3G, 7A). This weekend alone he had 5.
Then, Charlie Coyle remembered that this apparently was Charlie Night, remembered his name was also Charlie, and he decided to knock in some goals of his own, 2 in fact. The first bounces off of him, which is great. Always make your opponent pay for their mistakes, even if you’re playing the part of a body around the net.
Oh NO, Jeff Petry.
Charlie Coyle is credited with the goal.

The second was more of a statement.
Plenty of Charlie tallies to choose from tonight.

Taylor Hall, who turned 30 yesterday, also wanted one for himself. Maybe he thought his name was also Charlie. It was an empty netter, so there’s no gif.

So, the Bruins have 5 more days off in between games because of course they do. (We’re going to hate this time off in March and April when there is a game nearly every day.) Hopefully, they can be in top (top-ish) form when they meet up with the Philadelphia Gritties in Philly.
It was good to have a low-stress weekend. No funerals, no halloween events, no hockey games to run off to. Just some overdue yard work.
Easy-peasy, though a little sweaty.
Morning all. So this weekend Amazon Prime recommended I watch Vibes, a 1988 movie starring Cyndi Lauper and Jeff Goldblum who are two physics who end up on a wacky adventure to Ecuador. It sure was something alright.
Only gets a 5.7 on IMDB. Peter Falk in it too!
IMBD’s being a bit generous there with the 5.7!
It is good for a mindless “why did they make this?!” movie night.
“Smithers, I hear that Cyndi Lauper is popular with the kids. Let’s make a movie with her in it. Those allowance-rich malcontents will think that we are ‘hip’ and ‘with it’.”
Might be one for us old folks! We’ll give it a little try. We’ve been watching some Schitt’s Creek and are digging it!
Schitt’s Creek is wonderful. Catherine O’Hara is absolutely wonderful in that show.
Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy have been working together for, what, 40 years? They go back to 1976! Second City TV. John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas, Andrea Martin..
Autofotch changed O’Hara to “of bars”… kinda suits her Schitt’s Creek character!
Morning,
Nice weekend for the Bs. Good to see them finishing games strongly again.
Cliffy had some strong shifts last night, notwithstanding his error, pointed out by Brick, that led to a goal against.
Exhausted last night after clocking up 20,000 steps, plus some swimming, but I managed to watch the entire game before work this morning. Very handy that Leah now gets herself ready for school – I just have to make sure she wakes up on time!
Good morning!
Four of four points! That’s a great weekend. I noticed Zboril back in the line up…. he seemed …. okay. I hope he can close the gap between his potential and his actual abilities this season..
Charlie MacAvoy…. Scary good!
Nice paddle on my old home river in CT Saturday. So great. My buddy brought venison steaks and we grilled in the parking lot by the river…. Fantastic!
Jo is still nursing the bum knee and did not boat, but brought all the salads and beer, etc. to the party. The good life!
Salads and beer – that’s my kind of balanced diet!
Good Charlie is the best Charlie. I’m glad he’s back.
