Morning Free Association: Marchand Suspended Again!

If you were watching Sunday’s game, early in the first period you would have seen Brad Marchand take down Vancouver’s Oliver Ekman-Larsson in the one of the many battles the two endured on the ice that night. When I first saw it, I thought he would get called for a slewfoot but when Jack and Brick said it was a good hit and no one called it, I went on with my life and thought about it no more. Well, the NHL Department of Player Safety had an issue because they suspended Brad Marchand for three games.

If you’re puzzled about this, just remember that he has a reputation even though he hasn’t even been fined by NHLDoPS since January 2018.

Anyway, this week’s games became increasingly less watchable going forward. Who will the Bruins face when Brad returns to the lineup? The Canucks in Vancouver. Smashing.

Okay, this is late breaking news of a sort, since it came out late in the afternoon as I’m writing this: Jake DeBrusk has asked for a trade.

News is coming out that he had requested a trade months ago but was willing to give it a go. I guess the Bruins getting Taylor Hall kind of sealed his fate with the team and he’d like to go elsewhere to be higher up in the lineup.

I guess Jake doesn’t think that sitting is beneficial. And it probably isn’t if he wants out.

Well, in a line that will make no sense until tomorrow, I guess the Bruins are kind of exciting for the wrong reasons.

Ha! It didn’t snow here in southern VA, the side of the road is covered with cotton balls!

OMG, I’ve seen that before. It’s a little disorienting at first. It reminds me of driving through Carver, MA in the fall when the streets are lined with cranberries.

Cranberry sauce puddles!

Morning all. Had to clean up a bit of crime scene this morning thanks to a 4am Nugget mouse assault. A body has not been recovered. The search party will resume when I get home from work.

Doesn’t Nugget eat mice? I had a cat that did… then it would spit up a bit of something, but not much

Good morning!
. Okay, what I want to know is, did DOPS feel it should have punished B rad for the Panarin thing and seek out a way to “make up call” Marchand? Probably not, but the timing is suspicious.
Jo and I found ourselves back at that truck stop last night. It’s owned by Herm and Elliot Sadler, race car drivers. Maybe LB has heard of them. Also, met the chef. Dinner was bad ass! Breakfast there… Emporia, VA, then crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to the Eastern Shore!!

Oh! Oh! We watched a PBS movie “Rumble, Indians who rocked the world”. Rumble was a Link Wray song… the only instrumental ever banned! There were fears it would incite violence. Great watvh! The quote that stuck with me – Be proud of being Indian, just be careful who you tell about it…
The film and the Native Americans in the movie use Indian, not Native Americans…. not sure why

Great watch, of course.

Rumble is a fantastic documentary, especially when they talk about the influence between Native American music and Blues music.

I never thought of the link between Native American music and the blues. Now searching for Pura Fe’s music!

Sis recommended this to me a while back, but I haven’t been able to find it.

Rumble is a great song! It’s well known here, even by kids, since it’s used on an advert that seems to be on all the time.

It’s a good one to play to check your guitar is in tune – it uses all six strings. It’s also a good one to teach beginners, because they can focus on the chord changes without having to worry about strumming pattern.

I watched it on Amazon Prime. Not sure if it’s available on Prime across the pond. I also see it’s available to rent on You Tube.

Morning all,

That ‘slewfoot’ looks 50-50 at best to me. Interesting that Miller was looking right at it and didn’t seem to take any umbrage with the play. I guess we have to accept that DoPS will always have it in for Marchy.

Shame about Debrusk but if he’s after more minutes I guess he will have to move.

Crazy weather turnaround here. It was below freezing yesterday – today it’s 10C! Over the weekend in the north of England some people – including an Oasis tribute band – were snowed into a pub for three nights!

Meeting my parents and sister tomorrow at the big Xmas market in central London. It’s our one annual meet-up, and of course it was cancelled last year, so looking forward to that very much.

Wohoo! Enjoy! And I saw about the people snowed in the pub. I suppose if one has to be snowed in, a pub isn’t a bad place to be!
