Morning Free Association: Red Wings Again

Did you watch the game last night? Did you see the Boston Bruins take 42 shots on goal and fail to connect on all but 1. Detroit took only 16 shots through 60 minutes but made two of them count.

It wasn’t that the Bruins weren’t trying, they were just doing it from bad areas or just couldn’t get through a seas of bodies and sticks in front of the Red Wings net. But mostly it was taking shots from unideal spots. Meanwhile, the Red Wings drew first blood with a backhand goal on a breakaway by Filip Zadina in the second.

The one-goal lead held until the Bruins finally scored on a 5-on-3 power play in the third.

And that was the end of their scoring. Detroit would add another after Mike Reilly did some boneheaded thing that led to a delayed penalty, an extra man for the Wings, and a goal by Marc Staal. Yes, the Marc Staal who refused to fight after taking a cheap shot at Pasta in the back (no-call).

Anyway, the Bruins dropped this one 2-1 and failed to leapfrog them in the standings. The red Wings with Dylan Larkin are a much better team than we saw a couple of weeks back. More telling, the Bruins are worse without Brad Marchand. Let’s face it, Brad is the spark for this very average-looking team.

Speaking of Brad, Nick Foligno played the part of Brad tonight when he (and Craig Smith) tried to abduct a Red Wings player during the game.

Both Foligno and Namestikov would go off for matching roughings but who cares, it was funny.

The Bruins next game is on Thursday when the Bruins go to Nashville to take on Roman Josi and the Roman Josis.

I brought home sweet potato pie from a little local joint on the Eastern Shore. Also, the damson plum sauce that they serve with it.. indulging now!!!
High end food is great, but i love finding little local joints on the road… our own Drive ins, Diners, and Dives!

Morning all. Law & Order: Rodent Victims Unit update: The evening search party did not find a body but expert blood spatter analysis* suggests the victim escaped through the baseboard heat vent in the bathroom.

Oh wow. It’s amazing what animals can do on adrenaline (and people too). Don’t be surprised if theres a bad smell from that vent pretty soon though!

Yeah, fingers crossed I don’t have to deal with that! (Though Nugget was scoping out the vent last night. eek )

Ugh, dead mouse smells so bad! Hope you don’t have to deal with that.

You’ll soon smell whether the victim survived or not!

I’m not sure how I feel about the Marchand suspension. The league is so inconsistent about enforcing the slewfoot infraction. This one seemed not quite unintentional, but it was a ‘bang-bang’ play as they say in the NFL. The sort of thing that often gets ignored for the sake of gameplay because it wasn’t premeditated or unusually severe. But I’ve seen it get extra discipline a couple of times recently, so they’re looking out for it. And it IS Marchand, who, while not a ‘repeat offender’ by DOPS punishment guidelines, he’s obviously a repeat offender (esp w/ slewfooting) by their de facto watch list.

The 3 games is probably a bit out of line with their official policies concerning severity & repeat offender status.
It’s the inconsistency that frustrates me. I thought that by getting a couple of recent players in there that it would get better, but it seems to have gotten worse.

Well, that was another frustrating game. Sure, some of the 40-odd shots weren’t high percentage ones but there were a couple I was surprised didnt end up in the net.

Healthy November is over, and I did manage to drop the weight I was aiming for – plus an extra 400grams – so it was worth it. I will keep up the extra walking though, while the weather stays friendly. That’s good for body AND mind.

Slovakia is back in lockdown. We weren’t planning to go this winter, but only because of the possibility of exactly this happening.

Ah, too bad about Slovakia closing its doors. There’s been an uptick in the virus around here, and a few countries are back on the no travel list because of new variants.

There’s been a bit of a rush for people to get a booster shot, probably due to holiday travel plans. We’ll get (or at least schedule) ours soon enough.

Yeah, I tried to book a booster yesterday but couldnt! Will have to wait till I get the call I guess.

Must have been fairly cold last night, judging by how much fuel the pellet stove went through. Yuck.

That game just could not grab my attention last night.
Detroit?
don’t care
Bruins offense kept to the outside?
blah
No Marchand or Blidh or Cassidy?
yuck
T-Freddy in the lineup?
ok, now you’ve got my attention…
…at center against a team that isn’t using an enforcer
never mind.

Freddy at centre and Nosek on the wing did seem odd to me. I thought Nosek was doing a good job centring that fourth line. Unless I’m totally confused and hes been on the wing all along (quite possible).

Good morning!
We listened in the car. I know it was frustrating to watch, because it was equally frustrating to listen. I’d like to see Hall with Bergy and Pasta again.i thought something was starting to gel there. Again, i’m not worried. The Bruins do have 7 games in hand on the Dead Things. Keep the ship afloat. Get Tuukka back. Trade for Brendan Lemieux at the deadline…. deed done…. Okay, just wanted to see if you are reading. Still, the Bs will be fine…. right?
What a difference a day makes. After meandering around the Delmarva Peninsula, we decided to hightail it home. 64 yesterday, woke up to 26 this morn. Happy to be home, though Jo could have enjoyed the last 30 miles more without the slick roads and snow falling!

Oh, our vacay…. the “kids” live high end. Accommodations were first class. Fucking amazing, even. The food… whether we ate in or out – top shelf. My one beef…. St Simons Island is near the heart of the Georgia pines and barely distant from the paper mill to not stink, but the toilet paper was 60 grit! Show some of that Southern hospitality, folks. Give me the good stuff!

We stayed in Emporia, VA… wanted to get on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge for sunrise!

I am a little intrigued by the insertion of Hall on Bergy’s left. He’s an interesting option, though he doesn’t have the sniping ability of the man he’s replacing.

I am curious to see if they can get something going over the next couple of games.
