Morning Free Association: Shutout

Last night in Nashville, the Boston Bruins managed to put together a solid, full-60 effort in a 2-0 shutout over the Predators. The game was the second game without Brad Marchand (suspension) and head coach Bruce Cassidy (Covid protocol).

Jeremy Swayman saw a career high 42 shots against him in his 3rd career shutout and 1st of the season.

Keeping the Predators to zero goals is only half the game. fortunately, Swayman had enough goal support from Jake DeBrusk, who had the game winner, and Brandon Carlo, who had the extra one.

As it turns out, the normally solid Carlo has been having a rough start to his season but seemed to be playing his brand of hockey tonight. And after what happened to Jakub Zboril, the defensive part of the team needed to bring their “A” game.

In the second period, Jakub Zboril was checked by Nashville forward Yakov Trenin, a normal, clean hit. However, something happened to Zboril when his right leg collided with the board and he ended up leaving the ice with assistance from Patrice Bergeron and Taylor Hall.

Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious. Zboril was playing good hockey having played in the last 9 games.

With Joe Sacco at the helm, the lines were juggled. Sacco started a new-look second line of Erik Haula, Charlie Coyle, and Craig Smith with Smith wearing the A. This was Smith’s first game against his long-time former team since he signed with the Bruins in 2020. And they paid tribute to him with this video:

The Bruins return to Boston for one more game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday before heading out to western Canada.

Good morning!
Nice win. Love the goalie hug! Swayman may get a little swagger back. Nice to see the team pull it together without Marchand.
It’s a snow globe morning here! Sunshine and flurries! Jo and i might watch it all day!

I’ve been unusually well organised with year – helped a lot by the fact the family are clubbing together for a few presents and my sister has co-ordinated a lot of that!

Also, due to supply chain issues in Britain (possibly beyond?) although I have bought all my presents already, I’m pretty sure some of them aren’t going arrive until after Xmas!

Last year I did all my online shopping during the Sakhir GP. I tried to get it done before the end of the race but failed. Dang that was a fast race! lol

Haha! Sunday’s race will be short as well judging from practice. Only 50 laps of a very fast track> We must be due a safety car though …

Morning folks,

that was a much-needed win, eh? Lots of players seemed to step up.

Hopefully Zboril isn’t out too long. Brick mentioned an AHL lockdown the other day. Does that mean players can’t be moved between the leagues at the moment? Something Covid-related is it?

Lovely day in London yesterday, meeting up with family. Even the weather was on our side, although now we’re forecast a solid week of rain. Ah well.

Yeah it was a terrific game. The Bruins came out with a lot of energy, they got in close to the net. But the did give up a lot of shots. Glad Swayman was having a strong game.

RE the AHL – There’s apparently a huge COVID outbreak on Providence Bruins, locking them out of gameplay. They went on a road trip and came back with most of the team testing positive. They aren’t playing games this week and can’t lend players to affiliates. Apparently Hartford & Springfield are in much the same situation. Hartford was one of the cities on the P-Bruins trip, so one would assume there was some cross-contamination between the two/three teams?

Ah it’s just a couple of teams. I checked the AHL website and it seemed games were going ahead, so that explains it. Unfortunate timing for the Bs though.

Not sure how the AHL lockdown affects player movement. Good question. Since i don’t feel like working, i am going full rabbit hole on this!
