Morning Free Association: Loser Point

This weekend the Boston Bruins faced the Tampa Bay Lightning for the first time since the playoff bubble in July 2020. We all know how that ended: the Bruins behind Jaro Halak were eliminated by the eventual Stanley Cup Winning team in the Lightning, the first of back-to-back wins for the Bolts. Last season the league split into different divisions due to Covid travel restrictions and to save money for traveling teams who played without fans and their revenue.

It’s been some 17 months or so since their last meeting but some things remain the same: the Bruins couldn’t beat the reigning champions. Things were different this time. Both teams were without their best players; Brad Marchand served the last of his three-game suspension and Nikita Kucherov has been on LTIR for the past two months because of a lower body injury. Charlie McAvoy was out with a “non-Covid illness” and was replaced with Jack Ahcan, who that morning had cleared Covid protocol from the ailing Providence Bruins club. Tampa also was missing Brayden Point. But as long as they have Andrei Vasilevskiy, they’ll be alright.

The Bruins got their first loser point in the season, which is better than straight up losing. Even better, the team battled back from being down two goals to take the Lightning to overtime. Just 2 of the Bruins 39 shots crossed the goal line from Charlie Coyle and Curtis Lazar.

Then Steven Stamkos managed to net the overtime winner.

Brad Marchand will join the team when they take on the Vancouver Canucks on the Western Canada road trip on Wednesday. Yep, it’s a week of late night games.

Overslept a little today. Already bit my lip painfully during breakfast. This is going to be one of “those” days, isn’t it?

The Pride were playing at Warrior this weekend, so we drove in to see them. Got to meet one of the players’ dad, which was neat. I have to wonder if the folks on our opposite side are related to another player – they reference player by their first names and are mostly wearing the same player’s fan gear.

I also finally updated the Pride’s schedule info in the calendar. The PHF signed a streaming deal with ESPN+ just before the start of the season, and ESPN got them to reschedule all of the start times. My tickets all said start times of 6:30 & 2:30 while the games have actually been starting at 7:00 or 1:00. Mucho awkward. I just downloaded new e-tickets so we wouldn’t have to deal with that.

Leah overslept by nearly an hour this morning, but she still ended up being ready for school earlier than usual!

ESPN+ – do you get that with Disney?

Jo and I screwed up. We did a full year of espn+ and missed the bundle with Disney+, but I believe espn+ comes with Disney+ here. Rookie move

Morning guys,

Good effort by the Bs – the form was certainly franked by Tampa last night.

Anyone who doesn’t believe in luck might change their mind if they saw Saturday’s game. How many posts?! It’ll come good for them eventually, I’m sure. Probably headed for a first-round meeting with the Leafs!

Couldn’t sleep last night so I watched a few episodes of Nora From Queens. Quite funny. It was on BBC but it’s a US show.

Good morning!
A point is a point, even without Point. The Bruins are playing better hockey than they have for sometime. Yay!
Jo and I are heading to CT. Getting the snow tires put on and returning damaged merch to ikea. …. Maybe some fun, even
