Morning Free Association: EBUG

Yesterday at Warrior Arena for the Boston Bruins morning skate, several players were not on the ice. It may or may not have been an optional practice since several of the normal stalwarts were missing. But one familiar face was in an unfamiliar position. Tuukka Rask skated with the group as an EBUG.

Tuukka Rask has been skating prior to the daily Bruins practices, careful to leave the ice before the team came on. He may have seen players in passing. But he definitely wasn’t taking shots nor wearing his full gear until presumably yesterday. Word is he worked with Goalie Bob prior to practice and stayed on since both Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark either had a day off or caught the non-Covid illness that claimed Charlie McAvoy on Saturday. The news of the free agent goalie working as the EBUG traveled throughout the area locally and around the NHL.

Brad Marchand was asked about Tuukka during his availability today.

I am ready for Tuukka to return. While I feel like the team isn’t really playing in front of their goalies any differently than they have in recent years, with Tuukka I didn’t have to worry as much. Sure, he has slow starts and bad days and I will groan about him, but I know who Tuukka is and that he’s the best goalie the Bruins have had statistically. And really all you need to know is the following:

Tuukka has said that he will be cheap and it’ll be interesting to see what that means. But I have a feeling that Don Sweeney and Cam Neely might be on the hot seat right now so they need to make a decision that will best steer the club toward the playoff structure.

Sign Tuukka and soon.

So, returned from our trip, found an envelope labelled ” a recent history of Monroe” on the porch. Thought “oh, how sweet, the historical society…” On reading we found it to be full of accusations of fraud, etc in our local government. It also praised the man who had a cow in his basement to the point where canonization entered my mind… Yup, written by the cowfucker, basically saying how wonderful he is, how much everyone else sucks, and doesn’t he deserve tax breaks… Laughable, but this is how Trump started… grin

Wait, wait, wait…. So you’re telling me that a guy who kept a cow in his basement might not be completely sane and up to speed on social interactions?

I am shocked! Shocked, sir!

Hiya,

I don’t share Matt Kalman’s pessimism – I think we’ll be fine as far as making the playoffs goes. Of course, having Rask in the line-up wouldn’t hurt!

Today I have to effectively write the same articles for two different publications, but they have to be different enough that search engines won’t recognise they are the same. I guess if Alexander Hamilton could write 51 different essays on the same subject, I should be able to handle this …

Don’t share Kalman’s fears, either. Bruins will make the playoffs. I feel that they need Tuukka to go anywhere in the playoffs.
Whirlwind trip to CT yesterday. An appointment to get snow tires on the van was a 3 – 4 week wait near Monrovia. Went to our old’ reliable in CT, out in an hour, visited an awesome butcher, did a month’s grocery shopping, got damaged goods exchanged at Ikea…… and found time to beat my son at disc golf! Still home before 7!!!!. We rest today.

Yes, this feels like a team for whom getting to the playoffs will be one thing and doing anything in the playoffs will be something else all together…

I’ve managed to avoid the hell on earth that is Ikea for the last 12 months or so, though we’ve always been pretty lucky in terms of damaged/missing pieces, touch wood.

3-4 weeks to change tyres?! Get these guys on it:

Sounds like Stripes had more of a Merc Germany pit stop!

TBH, I was shocked how easy the Ikea thing was. Immediate refund and a note as to where to find the replacement. We were in and out in 10 minutes with both of us getting a pee break. Outfuckingstanding!

Toce Bros. Tire, Torrington, CT!! These folks are like a pit crew. I brought a book, but barely got a few pages in!

Have you considered contacting Monrovia’s poet laureate for editing advice?

  • “Once you start typing, whatever you do, don’t stop. Self editing is the road to giving up.”
  • “Keep animals close at hand. You’ll figure out why…”
  • “If you feel writer’s block coming on, just throw a housecat at something. That will spark something for sure!”
  • “Don’t be concerned about spittle accumulating on your face – it let’s people know you’re earnest!”
