Morning Free Association: Bruins at Oilers

Last night, the Boston Bruins played the second of a back-to-back, this time in Edmonton against the Oilers. The Oilers have two high octane players who are the best in the league in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and other players.

I guess

Edmonton has lost their last three games, the last two in front of their home crowd. The Bruins have dropped their last two in either overtime or the shootout.

Joe Sacco is still at the helm for the Bruins and announced prior to the game that Brandon Carlo is day-to-day with a lower body injury. John Moore (remember him?) slots back in at 2RD.

NO

Anton Blidh and Karson Kuhlman are in, Curtis Lazar and Oskar Steen are out.

After a lot of back and forth in the first, Brad Marchand decided to show why he is one of the best penalty killers in the league by scoring a shorty.

Of course he was assisted by the captain, who makes the fishbowl work for him.

I make loneliness work for me

The Bruins took a lead into the intermission. Jack said something about the Oilers having the worst point percentage after trailing.

Early in the second, hometown boy Jake DeBrusk lit the lamp on the powerplay to not much applause or fanfare. I mean, Edmonton might be getting him in the next week or two, so they better get used to it.

Erik Haula is called for holding and the Oilers took advantage of the penalty. Leon Draisaitl scored his 12th PPG of the season. The lesson should be don’t take stupid penalties or allow Draisaitl near the net on the PP, but would the Bruins learn?

no

Nearly halfway through the period, Charlie Coyle goes to the box for holding and Draisaitl scores again. His 13th PPG fo the season.

This surely sounds like a Bruins loss. But no, there is a happy ending. Matt Grzelcyk broke through with shot from the face off circle for his first of the season.

In the final minutes, Edmonton went empty net but the Bruins held firm for the win.

Good morning!
Thought today was Saturday!
So, have the Bs suddenly started playing defense? Have the goalies been on andro? 41 saves seems to deny the former, although the shots were not from the high percentage areas. Anyhoo, 3 out of 4 so far.. very happy

Woke up thinking it was Saturday! Neighbors are weekenders (about once a month). They showed up last night making me think it was Friday. I’m not senile…. I’m not senile!

Morning all,

Got a lot on today so I just watched the highlights. Looked a decent effort. I wonder if there’s some healthy competition forming between Swayman and Ullmark. They certainly seem to have both stepped up their game.

Louie Debrusk was on the commentary team for the home broadcast. That was Jake’s first goal against Edmonton apparently.

Good start to the road trip – I’d have happily taken three points from the back-to-back. Just need to revenge against Calgary now.

Remember a few years ago we were laughing about my darts teammate who left his shoes in the pub? Well, yesterday Leah managed to leave her schoolshoes – at school! I hope she finds them today …

I may have told the story last year.. Prior to my first grade school year, Mom took me for new shoes. On the ride home i started crying, but Mom could not get me to say why… Eventually i coughed up the answer.. my brand new shoes had fallen out the hole in the floor of the car! Mom turned the Edsel around, but history does not recall whether the shoes were recovered.

Oh, it’s true. Our neighbor, Shorty Mullen was a used car salesman. Dad was in sales, had a company car. Not a big budget for secondary transportation. I can remember Mr Mullen saying “Betty, i got a real cream puff for you. Hundred dollar special.
Invariably, they were abused cars, not used cars. No muffler, holes in the in the floor. Even when my older sisters had their driving license, theh didn’t want the family car. grin
