Morning Free Association: Back from Break?

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday. Ours was very low-key and definitely stay-at-home since there was no way we could even leave our house; overnight it had rained which turned into freezing rain and our once clear driveway became a black ice skating rink. The ice was glassy enough that we could see the very clear reflections of the trees on the driveway like it was a mirror. Yikes!

Now back to hockey.

Surprise! All the games that were scheduled for tonight, including the Bruins tilt at the Garden against the Pittsburgh Penguins, have been postponed due to the NHL allowing each team time for testing players returning from their (extended) holiday break.

As for the Bruins, they had seven players return from the protocol on Sunday: Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, Craig Smith, Trent Frederic, Anton Blidh, Jeremy Swayman, and Curtis Lazar. Marchand reported that he had symptoms. Lazar was apparently asymptomatic and was able to bypass the 10-day protocol by testing negative twice. Taylor Hall, Oskar Steen, and Brandon Carlo are still out. Charlie Coyle has now joined them after testing positive just prior to practice.

In addition to tonight’s game being postponed for the Bruins, Wednesday night’s matchup at Ottawa is also being pushed to a later date.

The league announced this on Sunday night along with new CBA measures to allow the formation of taxi squads again. I’m going to harbor a guess that the B’s playing at the Isles with only 11 forwards, 6 defensemen, and an emergency recall from Providence as the backup goaltender was a bad look.

One piece of positive news that came out on Sunday was about old pal, Tuukka Rask. He could be close to returning and being our savior.

He doesn’t have a deal in place officially, but that seems like a mere formality at this point.

I fell on my ass pretty good! Complete with my belongings flying in different directions.

Then the next time I took him out to pee, Boomer decided he needed to go out onto the ice. I managed to keep him from hurting himself, but then he decided he had a need for speed and sprinted back, yanking my back.
Serves me right for not exercising regularly, I suppose.

Oh ouch! Hopefully you’re not too worse for the wear.

After traversing the ice with SatanDog I have to give my new winter boots an A. Having the cleat built into the heal is a godsend. Plus you sound like you’re wearing tap shoes!

Ugh, that stinks. During my coaching years I developed the “ice walk”. You see coaches do it when they have to go on the ice…
I would that walking Boomer would keep you in tip top condition!

Before you can ice-walk, you need to notice that it’s ice. I was the guinea pig –
“Hey, did I just step onWLLAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!”
*thump*

*distant sound of car keys skittering down hill*

It’s 2039.

Beachfront property in Pittsfield is skyrocketing.

Ah-hah! Now Stripes’ plan to move to Monrovia makes sense!

Morning all, hope you all had a good break. Or are still having one!

The ice was glassy enough that we could see the very clear reflections of the trees on the driveway like it was a mirror.

That sounds lovely – did you take any pictures?

My Xmas was about as good as it could have been in the circumstances. I felt ok, and joined the girls downstairs for the family Zoom call and present opening (socially distanced and masked).

Tomorrow is my last day of isolation. Felt pretty much 100% yesterday but today the blocked sinuses and tickly cough are back. It’s a strange virus, this. Isolation hasn’t been too bad – though it helps that I don’t get bored easily and I’m incredibly lazy! It would be hell for Sonia!

Got lots of reading done and I’ve been bingeing Fargo (which I think someone on here recommended?). I never really rated Martin Freeman as an actor but he’s really good in this. Still haven’t finished the first season but expecting to today.

Probably me on the Fargo rec. I’m on season 4 now. I think season 1 is my favorite.

Ooh, I think UK Netflix only has three seasons. I expect it will have the fourth one by the time I get that far!

Glad you’re feeling better! doesn’t sound like you’ve fully kicked it tho.

I dunno if I mentioned Fargo, but I really enjoyed it. Each season is a different time frame, with an obscure tie-in to the previous one.

I like the little nods to the movie, too. Like the guy driving round the multistorey and deciding not to park there.

Good morning!
A quiet holiday, yes. We had two dinner guests – young boaters who live down around the corner… no one was getting out of Monrovia with all that ice. Mostly we are extending the holiday, because we can. Would like to see some hockey soon. At least, the teams should have pretty full rosters when play starts again.

I imagine Monrovia was pretty isolated last weekend

Our friends came over by car, but only because one of them blew out his achilles tendon snowboarding
