Morning Free Association: Bruins (18-11-2)

If you went into watching Saturday night’s game with some trepidation, I don’t blame you. The Bruins and Lightning have met once before this season when both teams were missing key players: the Bruins Brad Marchand (suspension) and the Lightning Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point (injuries). The result of that team was an overtime win for the visiting Bolts, 3-2. That in and of itself would instill fear; that would be Tampa’s dominance over the past couple of years and their second place standing in the Atlantic. There is a third reason: those ugly-ass sweaters they were wearing last night. I like black uniforms but perhaps those were a bit too dark. I couldn’t read the numbers so I just decided to blame everything other than scores on Anthony Cirelli. Some guy is sitting on Charlie Coyle after the faceoff? Get off him, Anthony Cirelli. Some other guy is pushing David Pastrnak around? Back off, Cirelli!

Anyway, my fear gradually melted away but only when the Bruins went up by 4 goals. The Bruins scored quickly, seemingly catching the near invincible Andrei Vasilevskiy off guard. David Pastrnak beat him on a shot that maybe wasn’t intended to be a shot on goal, more of a puck in deep, but ended up lighting the lamp.

And then he takes the rebound off a Taylor Hall shot, bounces it from his skate to his stick, and knocks into the open side of the net.

Then quickly in the second, Brad Marchand got in on the scoring making it 3-0.

Later in the second, the Bruins almost threw it all away when they were called for two penalties just 74 seconds apart. Worse yet, the two penalized players are the Bruins best penalty killers: Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. The Bruins killed off the the 5-on-3.

Oskar Steen and Anton Blidh connected to provide another goal for Boston.

The Lightning would come back in the third with 2 of their own goals from Ondrej Palat and Brayden Point. But their comeback wasn’t enough. Brad Marchand sealed the game with an empty net with just under 3 minutes left.

The funniest part of the game was when Pat Maroon started chirping Marchy after that goal. Brad told him what to do.

The unfortunate thing that happened in this game was in the first period when Nick Foligno injured his knee. We’ll find out in the coming days what that means.

So there you have it. Pasta might be reignited. Brad had a couple of his own. Oskar Steen keeps making a case for himself.

Bruins next play tonight at the Capitals.

I was watching the Couples the other day and was thinking that Coyle and Clifton for Andrew Ladd and Anton Stalman would be a great move…. I may have been drunk, tho

It’s like I don’t like the initials CC. Would I have impeached Coolidge and panned Chapman’s films?

Morning all. Almost done with season 4 of Fargo. Watched some more last night and then had a dream I was engaged to Chris Rock.

I’m still on season 2. Think I watched six episodes one day while I was isolating! Love that Minnesota accent. Had to consult YouTube to check if it was real!

Haven’t seen the accent when I’ve been to Minneapolis. I suspect that it is more a North Dakota/ Manitoba thing. It reminds me of the guy I knew from Saskatchewan.

When I first saw the movie, which is mostly based in Minneapolis, I was dying because I’d been to all the places where it was filmed when I used to travel there for work. “I’ve parked in that garage!” “That restaurant was in my hotel!” etc.

It happens.

I’ve been having lots of interesting dreams lately. The awkward thing is waking up, and wanting desperately to go back to sleep and continue the story. Or worse, when they bleed into reality. I had one recently where I was out with someone and they pissed me off and when I woke up, I couldn’t help but be angry with them, even though I knew I had no reason to be.

Yes! I’ve had some strange dreams lately and, upon waking could not get back there. I was almost done figuring out all the worlds’ problems the other morning…. And then it was gone!

Oh that’s an excellent show. The first two seasons are the best but they’re all good.

The Bruins have historically done well vs Vasilevskiy, but he just wasn’t on his game this weekend. In spite of being on top of the division, Tampa is actually 3rd in points % – they’ve played like 6 games more than everyone else, (and did I hear correctly that their backup goaltending has been really bad?). The Bruins are actually not too far behind them.

I’m glad to see some signs of life from Marchand & Pasta. They’d been noticeably absent from the score sheet recently. I’m not super confident in Haula as 2C, but it’s been working for ’em, so what do I know. I hope it lasts.

>Yes, I hope it lasts as Coyle, Steen, and Blidh have been great, too!

Hi folks,

After watching the highlights of the first two periods I realised I could’ve used the VPN to watch the full game! Ah well, we live and learn.

Looked like the Lightning defence were in generous mood and the Bs are finally getting some puck luck.

Had a nice day yesterday. Dog walking in the morning, followed by swimming and then a nice pub lunch. Woody the dog was confused by frozen puddles.

Indoor swimming, I guess. We may go to the YMCA in North Adams Sunday. Very warm pool!

Surprise, surprise, surprise! The Bruins shocked the shit out of me Saturday. The (ugh) “Bolts” were not exactly on top of their game, and the Bs took full advantage. I think the first goal went off a d man’s shin pad, but Vasilevski did not look sharp. I like Smith with Bergy and B rad. I’m hoping Pasta and Hall get something going… Hope springs eternal!

Yeah, that tumbler was a little awkward to play, but Vasilevskiy went to seal off the left side of his net, when the puck was threatening the right. He was not ready to play that game.

Crossing my fingers for some Hall-Pasta chemistry.
