Morning Free Association: Bruins (19-11-2)

Over the past decade, the Boston Bruins have had a hell of a time getting past the Washington Capitals. Part of that was a stout Caps defense and a robust offense. When they were backed by Braden Holtby, it seemed the B’s met their kryptonite. But, things have changed in the past couple of years, with Boston winning more games than the Caps. Last night was possibly the best of the Bruins and the worst of the Caps.

The game started out poorly for the Bruins when Melrose’s own Conor Sheary continued his assault against his “hometown” team by netting his 9th and 10th goals on the year within the first 10 minutes of game time.

But then, a series of penalties set in motion the Bruins scoring. First Nic Dowd hi-sticked Brad Marchand causing a huge mess and possibly a broken nose for the Ghost Face Killer.

NIc Dowd got 4 minutes for that. Then Patrice Bergeron ended up in the box for interference making it a 4-on-4. Bergeron would leave the box after 2 minutes. Finally, John Carlson cross-checked Erik Haula (I guess it’s a penalty again?) setting up a 5-on-3 for 23 seconds. David Pastrnak only needed 15 of those for his power play goal.

Then 40 seconds later, Marchy exacted his revenge with the remaining power play time.

At the end of the first period it was 2-all.

In the second, the Bruins continued their scoring ways. Matt Grzelcyk, who had assists on the first 2 goals, decided to score himself on his way to a 5 point night.

Then more goals by Craig Smith, Pasta, and Erik Haula.

Six. Unanswered. Goals. That makes QUOTA!

At one point in the second, Linus Ullmark was well out of position but he had some backup.

TJ Oshie ended the Bruins scoring with one if his own. The Bruins up 6-3.

In the third, Brad Marchand was at it again, assisted by Craig Smith and Grzelcyk.

Bruins win 7-3.

How about the fact that Bobby Orr had 42 four point games in his Bruin career! In 631 games as a Bruin, Bobby Orr scored 924 points! Holy schnikees! Oh yeah, defensemen didn’t do that then.

Didn’t the goalie used to say to him at the start of the game “see you in the locker room”. Attack is the best form of defence!

Ha! Hadn’t heard that one!

Morning all. To add to the weird dreams, Lady Gaga was in my dream last night which is odd because I really don’t care at all about Lady Gaga!

I can’t say i give a care about Lady Gaga. I might have to watch the concert with Tony Bennett, tho

Morning folks,

Well, four points and 12 goals in games against Tampa and the Caps – I think we’d have all taken that if it was offered. And good form to go into a game against the Habs, who have been habitually letting in four goals a game lately…

Please no let down vs the Habnots! It’s a trap game!

Good morning!
Do not piss off the Bruins! It looks like everything is falling into place. It would be great if they could keep this going. Hall and Pasta are starting to get it on. A center just needs to try and keep up with them!

My brother and i have an unwritten agreement…. when your team wins in a head to head, you wait until the loser calls you. Dan likes a lot of the Bruins and knows not to attach much sentiment to the regular season. I think the Caps defense is not what it once was. I believe they will aquire some D before the deadline.

I mean, nothing’s going to bother him about last night that would compare to the 190 footy own-goal. grin

How’s the propane heat working out for you?

We are watching it closely. So far it’s working out looking like $400 per month (projected) for January, February, and March. We also use the propane for cooking and hot water, so i guess that’s good. \_0_/

Did you walk to work?

Took the free bus that runs here during the winter! Best part was I could watch for it from my front door and then run out and catch it when it looped back around. Got to love door to door service and minimal time outside!

Haha! There’s something very satisfying about exploiting a bus loop!

Except for the one time the bus driver stopped on the loop around for 10 minutes to call into the Waterbury radio station to give his opinion on the topic being discussed!
