Morning Free Association: Just Ducky

This weekend, the Bruins held off the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 after a late penalty taken caused them to end the game on the kill. Thankfully the Jets were 0% on the power play with 4 chances. With this win, the Bruins 8-2 in their last 10 and are 3 points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs and safely in the Wild Card 1 position. If the B’s can hold onto that playoff slot, they can avoid the meat grinder of the Atlantic Division in the playoffs. Still, those days are a ways off.

Tonight the Bruins play their last home game for a week when they welcome the Anaheim Ducks. These Ducks are not the team that we’ve seen in the last few years. After a period of rebuilding, the team is second in the Pacific division just 3 points behind Vegas. Of course, VGK has 3 games in hand and the division looks a bit weak but Anaheim has some potent scoring coming from All-Star Troy Terry and former Boston University Terrier Trevor Zegras. However, Terry hasn’t played since January 14th since he was placed in COVID protocol.

Take a look at Trevor Zegras.

Also, I love a guy who can poke fun at himself.

The Ducks are in that stage where they’re beginning to see results but it’s kind of hard to tell what kind of team they are. One thing they aren’t is a good road team at 7-9-3. But, this team can take others to overtime and the shootout, which is not something the B’s should entertain.

Should be a fun game.

Morning all. Dodge a bullet early Saturday morning. Power went out around 3am but wasn’t out long enough that all the heat disappeared.

Yeah, that’s the scary thing about winter power outages – all of the electrically controlled heat sources stop working. As much as I appreciate the pellet stove, the wood stove kept going when the power was off.

I have to put in a chimney liner, then i can add a wood stove to the mix here.

The big worry!! Supplemental heat is very high on my list for future projects. Glad it didn’t affect you!

Good morning!
Woo hoo! So much fun when your team is on a roll! Watched a couple Ducks games recently. They are pretty good. No let downs allowed!
Pretty good career stats from Getzlaf….

We went snowshoeing yesterday! Only a mile, but something to build on!. There’s a great trail across the river. Beautiful and quiet.

Ah nice. I’d like to give that a go. Have you ever tried cross-country skiing? Absolutely terrifying. Those things are impossible to control and have a mind of their own!

I’ve found both X-country skiing and snow-shoeing to be fun, but quit a lot of work. Keep the sports drink nearby!

Though to be fair, I’ve really only done snow-shoeing to get around the yard when the snow pack gets deep. I’d found a pair of old-timey snow shoes (wooden frames with a basket-weave of rubberized straps) when I was in college, and played with them a little, but they didn’t have proper shoe bindings and were too difficult to keep in good repair. I picked up a pair of modern snow shoes a few years back so I could manage my roof rake on the less accessible side of the house, rather than standing in a snow-bank up to my nether regions on a heavily wooded hillside, then involuntarily sliding down the rocky slope on my backside!

I found Xcountry much more difficult than downhill. It does have the advantage of a bit of fun on downhills. My neighbor, Brian, and his wife have skis that they can skin(?) or downhill on. The bindings lock like telemark skis, but they are shaped …. i want to try it. Last night they stopped by. I drove them up through Vermont back roads to the top of the closed road… the steepest road. They skiied down with headlights and i met them at the bottom… so cool
